Named: Depreciation winners and losers

Audi Q5, Skoda Yeti and Abarth 500 top list of best used car values, according to data from Cap

Audi Q5

The Audi Q5 has the lowest rate of depreciation of any mainstream car on sale in the UK, says valuation specialist Cap.

The company compiled a list of the best and worst depreciators exclusively for Auto Express, and the compact SUV came out tops, followed by the Skoda Yeti and Abarth 500. At the other end of the scale, the Vauxhall Zafira retains the lowest percentage of its list price.

Cap Black Book editor Tim Bearder said: “The Audi Q5 was one of the first large lifestyle cars. It’s proven to be desirable, and it’s well equipped, which helps its value.” He added that the Skoda Yeti was in very high demand, and lead times of nine or 10 months for a new model mean “dealers can really charge a premium for used examples”.

“The Vauxhall Zafira, on the other hand, is discounted very heavily from new,” continued Bearder. “So it starts with a low value compared to its list price, and goes down from there.”

The percentages given aren’t predictions: they’re the current Cap figures for three-year-old or 30,000-mile cars. The list includes models that were on sale three years ago, and we’ve also removed any that sold less than 400 in the UK last year.
