Elise Gets Three Years' US Grace

The Lotus Elise is finally going on sale in America - but only after last-minute intervention by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

19th February 2004

Despite spending more than ΂£14million, Norfolk-based Lotus had been unable to modify the car's front to meet stringent US regulations. However, the NHTSA has agreed to a three-year exemption for the two-seater. The firm said its next-generation Elise, due in 2006, will comply with the rules.
