Peugeot’s answer to the Audi TT has been spotted in the snow. The French firm announced back in May last year that the radical coupe would make it to production, but this is the first time we’ve seen it out in the open – despite the RC Z underpinnings being disguised under a 308 hatch bodyshell.
The most outlandish Peugeot in years will in fact be based on the 308 platform, but with a wider track for better stability at speed. So it’s the modifications to the 308’s wheel arch that give away the RC Z underneath.
Powered by the same 1.6-litre turbocharged engine from the MINI Cooper S with around 170bhp, Peugeot hopes the RC Z will attract even more young buyers to the brand. Expect to see a production version of the car at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, with sales starting in summer 2010.
