Renault celebrated the huge success of the Kangoo Van Z.E. at the Frankfurt Motor Show recently, as keys to the 10,000th Kangoo Van Z.E. were officially handed to Deutsche Bahn's Purchasing and Technical Director Gerhard Dech.
The Kangoo Van Z.E. is currently Europe's best-selling small electric van and accounts for almost 10% of Kangoo van sales. It's particulary popular in France, where it is the country's biggest selling electric vehicle and has won over some 6,000 business customers.
Since its launch at the end of 2011, the Kangoo Van Z.E. has won the prestigious International Van of The Year award in 2012, joining the likes of the Ford Transit Connect, the Transit Custom and other previous winners.
In June, the Kangoo Van Z.E. underwent a facelift, which saw modifications to the front end of the vehicle, as well as the incorporation of new features such as an R-Link multimedia tablet.
With the Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe, Ford Focus Electric and other models already in the electric-vehicle game, the van market still has a lot of catching up to do. However, the Kangoo Z.E isn't the only zero-emissions van around - Volkswagen recently unveiled an e-load up! concept at Frankfurt. It's an electric city delivery van that Volkswagen hope to push towards production should there be enough demand.
