New Skoda Enyaq iV vRS is the fastest Skoda ever

A power boost to 335bhp sees Skoda's all-electric SUV become the brand’s fastest and most powerful model to date

Skoda is beefing up its all-electric Enyaq vRS, creating the most powerful production vehicle in the Czech brand’s history while also improving the performance-brand flagship’s charging speed and range.

Major revisions to the Enyaq vRS’s drivetrain have increased its power output by 40bhp – from 295bhp to 335bhp. Skoda claims the power boost slashes a full second off the car’s 0-62mph time, taking it down to 5.5 seconds.

Reprofiled battery-management software and improved motor calibration mean that this extra performance is delivered alongside gains in the Enyaq vRS’s range between recharges. Skoda claims the coupe version of the car can travel 340 miles on a single charge, an increase of 16 miles, while the Enyaq vRS SUV manages 15 miles more than before, at 336 miles.

The revisions also extend to the charging system, whose maximum DC speed jumps from 135kW to 175kW. This means the Enyaq vRS’s battery can be taken from 10 to 80 per cent of capacity in 28 minutes – eight minutes faster than the current car.

The technical revisions are being accompanied by tweaks to the Enyaq vRS’s specification, with several new features, including USB-C ports for rear-seat passengers, rear privacy blinds, towbar preparation and rear side airbags, all now included as standard.

The car’s infotainment system, head-up display and digital instrument panel have also been tweaked, apparently making their interfaces easier to use.

The revised Skoda Enyaq vRS goes on sale at the end of this month. Skoda has yet to confirm prices but the improved specification and technical gains are likely to mean a small increase over the existing figures, which start from £52,670 and 54,370 respectively.
