BMW and MINI are planning to release up to 20 front-wheel-drive models

BMW is planning to release as many as 20 different front-wheel-drive models, Auto Express has learned. The new models will use the same platforms as the next-generation MINI and the production version of the Concept Active Tourer.

“We’ve got plans to produce up to 20 new models on this platform. Not all of them have been approved yet – we’ve got approval on 10-12 new models,” said Ian Robertson, member of the board of management at BMW.

Although the first to arrive will be the new MINI Hatch, the firm is understood to be planning a range of MINI derivatives such as the Convertible, Coupe and Clubman models.

BMW’s offerings are thought to include the next-generation X1 crossover, a small convertible sports car that could be called Z2 and the next-generation 1 Series, which is set to arrive in 2017.

At last - BMW see the light over front wheel drive.
One of the main reasons I have shy'ed away form BMWs. Now what will you Auto Express guys do without those perfect BMs

NOOO! The world is coming too an end!

There is no substitute for RWD to get the steering really right, at least with every car I've driven in the 3 series and Mondeo sector. Winter tyres solves any ice / snow issues with RWD. But if you want to make smaller more compact cars you run out of room to run the drive shaft to the back of the car and have acceptable space so FWD it has to be.

CALM DOWN GUYS IT'S ABOUT MAKING MONEY & NOYHING ELSE TO MAKE EVEN MORE MONEY YOU HAVE TO EXPAND THE RANGE OV CARS & WORK TOGETHER & SHARE PLATFORMS & ENGINES WITH OTHER MANUFACTURES eg BADGES TO MAXIMISE PROFITS, NO DOUBT THESE PARTNERSHIPS ARE WITH VAG & MERCEDES VAG IS SHOWING THE WORLD HOW TO MAKE THE SAME CARS WITH SO MANY DIFFERENT BADGES ON THEM & EVERYONE IS JOINING IN BECAUSE THEY WOULD BE FOOLS NOT OR SIMPLY BANKRUPT.
