Our rundown of the 116 best new cars coming to showrooms over the next 12 months

If there was one thing the 2012 Paris Motor Show proved, it was that exciting new cars aren’t in short supply. And the great news for buyers is that most of these weren’t fanciful concepts, but full production cars that you can expect to appear in your local showroom very soon.

It’s fantastic to see British manufacturers flexing their muscles, too. The new Jaguar F-Type, Range Rover and McLaren P1 show that the motor industry over here is in rude health, while UK-built models such as the new Toyota Auris and Honda Civic wagon are great news for jobs.

Over the next few days, we'll give you the lowdown on the best new models, with full details of what’s coming – and when. Today, we look at the best new cars from Tesla to Volvo.

Tesla Model S is conspicuous by its absence from this otherwise comprehensive list of cars to come to the UK in 2013. In my humble opinion Model S is the epitome of the electric cars on sale so far. Even the VW and Ford electric cars in the pipeline do not hold a candle to the hugely talented Model S. Its the first and so far the only credible alternative to conventional engined cars. For those who may not know it's a BMW 5 M rivalling saloon priced from £59,000 and range starting from 210 miles. If only Tesla could fit a small engine to charge the battery it'd be as near perfection as the existing technology can offer.
