2,500th LEVC TX taxi rolls off production line

LEVC has now produced 2,500 electric TX taxis at its factory in Coventry, preventing 6,800 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere

LEVC (London Electric Vehicle Company) has now produced 2,500 examples of its electric TX taxi – 2,000 of which are in London – preventing approximately 6,800 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.

The TX has an electric-only range of 80 miles and is also fitted with a Volvo 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which acts as a range extender. The vehicle is built at the LEVC factory in Coventry, where parent company Geely has invested more than £500 million since 2014.

LEVC TX London Taxi review

London isn’t the only place where taxi drivers can buy a TX – it’s available in over 20 cities across the UK, including Birmingham, Coventry, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as foreign countries such as Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

LEVC says a total of 6,800 tonnes of CO2 have been prevented from entering the atmosphere thanks to the TX – equivalent to 1,500 return flights from London to Sydney – while also reducing NOx emissions by 99.5 per cent compared with the previous diesel-powered TX4 taxi.

The 2,500 TXs have covered a total distance of 21 million miles – equivalent to driving around the world 845 times, or making 45 trips to the moon and back – and saved 850,000 litres of fuel from being pumped saving taxi drivers a total of £3.85 million or around £100 per week each. In addition, some 13 million passengers have travelled in a TX, with a combined 45 million gigabytes of data having been used via the car’s on-board Wi-Fi system.

Joerg Hofmann, CEO of LEVC, said that he was “extremely proud of this momentous achievement”, adding: “We are proud to be supporting the city of London in its efforts to improve air quality – and doing the same across the UK.

“In the very near future, we will be further driving TX sales in Europe and expanding our range with a new LCV. Our goal is to be the leading European green commercial mobility solution provider.”
