Honda Accord (new)

It could have gone either way for the Accord saloon and Tourer. Having been in the top five for two years, it was either going to have a final push for the top spot or make way for fresher competition –– and it’'s done the latter. But it hasn’'t disappointed its drivers. Only the middle pedal is letting you down, resulting in a poor 60th for braking. Reliability is still first class, while a fine finish in the running costs rank is due to the popularity of the 2.2 diesel cars – 58 per cent of Accord owners polled drive one.

Your Quotes

“Awesome. Why would I buy something else? I can do 400 miles a day in it and not have backache, plus it starts every time. My fourth Accord; I look forward to my fifth.”

Mr Richard Snell - Hampshire

“For the type of car I think it is very hard to beat in its category for smooth performance and handling. It has good load space with easily tip rear seats. A good driving position is easily found due to reach & rake steering and the engine is economical especially on long runs. Fit and finish are excellent. The old saying you get what you pay for, it may be a slightly higher price but it good value.”

Mr Ernest Shaw – Co Durham

“The car is economical, comfortable, a great workhorse. The engine is very strong. The seats are fine for long journeys. I am well pleased with the car after 42,000 miles in 14 months, including towing a caravan.”

Mr Roger Bowles - Oxon

“Awesome - why would I buy anything else? I can do 400 miles a day in it and not suffer backache, it starts first time every time and does not go wrong, it is my fourth accord and I look forward to my 5th”

Mr Richard Snell - Hampshire

“Fantastic car lived up to my expectations, only complaint is the narrow gap between boot and rear seat when seat back is down.”

Mr Alistair Matheson - Inverness

“Very reliable only been to dealer twice for service, good build quality and very nice to drive. 37,000 miles maintenance free driving.”

Mr Ralph Williams - Ferndown

“Excellent, possibly the best car I have owned. It is my first diesel and I won't go back to a petrol. The problem was with the air-con and was caused by a strange problem that took ages to diagnose and fix - the garage (and seemingly Honda) had not seen the problem before.”

Mr Grahame Sherwin - Surrey

“It’s Japanese! That says a lot about its reliability and good dealer network. It's also a great motorway cruiser that can handle well on the B-roads. Whilst it doesn't set the world on fire in terms of performance, when in the right gear, it pulls like a animal and has frightened some warm hatches with its in-gear grunt!”

Mr Lee Dainty – South Yorkshire

“Doesn't drive like a normal fwd car; they should all be like this. Not perfect, but a pleasure to drive. There is some redundant gearing, the drive-by-wire throttle often messes up the 1-2 shift, the Michelin HX MXM4 tyres are not worthy of this car, and only work because the rest of the car is so good.”

Mr Greg Watt - Ontario

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

It hasn'’t been a vintage Driver Power year for Honda, as its best models have slipped down a few rungs in the top 100. But the firm has managed to hold on to its bronze medal position. Buyers can still expect first-class motoring, no matter which model they choose. Interestingly, the car maker'’s strongest suit was reliability, and Honda didn'’t finish lower than 11th in any one of the 10 categories.
