Best for ease of driving

Want a car that offers fuss free transport? Don't miss our guide to the UK's easiest cars to drive.

How hard do you have to work behind the wheel of your car?

The ease of driving category is the most abstract of the 10 Driver Power rankings – but one of the most important.

The top model here is a big surprise. Even though it has a complex hybrid drivetrain, the Toyota Prius is a breeze to drive. It’s as easy to get on with as an automatic, and provides light steering and a fine view of the road.

Our runner-up couldn’t be more different, though. Land Rover’s Discovery 3 scores with its high driving position and all-round parking sensors. It’s joined on the podium by the super-smooth Jaguar XF.

The winners 1. Toyota Prius (old) “Practical and easy to drive. Not as economical as the manufactures suggest. As a company car the tax benefit is low.” Mr Malcolm Coleman, Ferndown, Dorset.

2. Land Rover Discovery 3“Probably the most versatile vehicle on the market today.Easy to drive and park, excellent for towing. Brilliant off-road.” Mr Douglas Findon, Calside, Dumfries

3. Jaguar XF“This car is the best I have had the pleasure to drive, I just wish I had waited until the new 3.0 litre diesel came out. Never mind, next time I hope!” Mr Christopher Jowle, Sheffield S. Yorks.
