Auto Express has obtained pictures of the new Mini Roadster from an insider at the firm. This is how the Roadster is shaping up... It's larger than the established car with room for two and is packed with features unique to the Roadster. Mini has listened to criticism about the lack of boot space in the current model and have given it enough room to accommodate a Mini One if you so desire.
It is equipped with an Infra-Red driving aid, named the Bat-Scope, which makes driving at night much easier. It's also equipped with BMW's own proprietary emergency recovery system which the company say will reduce call out times for Recovery companies by up to 20%. Unfortunately, we found the 2m wide spotlight fitted to the boot lid restricted rearward vision a little.
Because of the increase in size and weight, the handling has suffered. Owners of the standard Mini will miss that cars lightning quick steering response. However, the power steering is so light it can be operated by the drivers Bat-Sense if they have chosen to have it fitted from Mini's options list.
All in all, we at Auto Express like the Roadster. At 5m long, it fits comfortably within the super-mini sector and we are sure it will attract many discerning Mini customers who enjoy 'Wind In The Cape' motoring...
