A five-star NCAP rating for adult occupant protection has become commonplace, but with a full 37 points out of a possible 37, the Megane CC became only the second car ever, after the Nissan Qashqai, to score maximum points.
As with any convertible, special attention is needed to ensure it retains its structural integrity in the event of a crash. Strengthened windscreen pillars, body sides and roll bars keep the car rigid in an impact, while six airbags, including two underneath the cushions of the front seats that prevent you sliding forwards off the seat, dissipate the force of the impact.
Other models which offer open-top thrills as well as class-leading safety credentials include the VW Eos and Peugeot 207CC.
