Aston Martin concept gallery

As Aston Martin prepares to break with tradition and take the wraps of the four-door coupe Rapide, we take a look at some alternative models!

THE countdown has begun to the launch of the Aston Martin Rapide – the firm's first four-door since the Lagonda of the late Seventies.

It'll be the star of the company's stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month, and it's certainly a break from the 'normal' two-door coupe that Aston is famous for.

However, if it's a genuinely different Aston you're after, how about these futuristic concept cars? They've been penned by final year students at the Turin Design Institute studying Transportation Design who've come up with their view of how an Aston should look in 2025...

Aston Martin Vestige   Aston Martin Elate   Aston Martin Sattva   Aston Martin Symbiosis
1. Aston Martin Vestige

With a body inspired by a scarab beetle's wings, and an interior layout that can change from three seats to a single seat for the driver, the Vestige is certainly futuristic. Under the skin lie four electric motors and a supercharged Wankel engine.

2. Aston Martin Elate

Elate is a three-seater, front-engined hybrid with an exterior that draws inspiration from 'flowers'.

3. Aston Martin Sattva

Being inside the Sattva is, says its designer, "like being wrapped in a second skin that allows you to observe and be observed'.

4. Aston Martin Symbiosis

"We want to bring back the symbiosis between man, nature and the automobile," say the designers of this amazing concept. Whether an Aston Martin that looks like this can blend seemlessly into its environment is another matter of course.

Aston Martin PT220609   Aston Martin Gotha   Aston Martin Libido   Aston Marting Cocoon
5. Aston Martin PT220609

Heavily influenced by motorsport, the catchily titled PT220609 gets a very aerodynamic design that allows air to pass through its nose, supplying ventilation and aiding downforce.

6. Aston Martin Gotha

Apparently, the Gotha has been designed for a London of 2025 where 'cynicism prevails' – perhaps this explains the gothic architecture-inspired Batmobile-like shape?

7. Aston Martin Libido

According to its designer, the amusingly named Libido mixes 'crazy passion with controlled reason'  and 'strives to reach an equilibrium'. It looks good too.

8. Aston Marting Cocoon

This concept is meant to rouse 'deep emotions' says the student who penned it – and with dramatic cutaways around the front wings mixed with a sleek body, who are we to argue?
