The vRS’s chassis doesn’t have enough sparkle for the hot hatch class. It has a fraction too much body roll, and the steering is slightly numb, too. Still, it’s evolved into a more mature car, with punchy performance, decent ride comfort and top-notch build. The Fabia is competitively priced and easy to live with day-to-day.

Why don't you really canvas the views,which Skoda should have done themselves ,from the previous , current vRS and future owners preferences.They might just have come up with something less "clone like" and what the punters really wanted i.e 170bhp Golf GTD engined with a six speed manual at £6.0k cheaper and more fun than the Golf. Unique package!!!!
Sorry,but as you have suggested the rally car bares little resemblance to the road car.Do the back to back old and new "day to day" all conditions and see which would be the best.Watch the depreciation,cost of running and the warranty claims on the high revving flappy paddle clone after 3 years!! We can't all buy new cars each year!!
I'm a very happy Fabia vRS SE owner,actually my 2nd vRS ,still a "Happy Driver",but I would have liked to replace eventually, with the aforementioned, for a little more fun,but still having similar alround solid and reliable qualities of the old!
