Chevrolet has released a teaser image of the new high-performance Corvette Z06, set to make its world debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January next year. The announcement follows the news that GM will axe Chevrolet from European markets by the end of 2015.
However, the American manufacturer did announce iconic models such as the Corvette and Camaro will still be available to buy in Europe following its withdrawal, of which the Z06 is one.
Chevrolet may have been hoping to steal some of the thunder from the reveal of the Ford Mustang, but the teaser shot doesn’t give too much away other than lightweight carbon fibre trim will be fitted, with the Z06 sitting on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires.
Technical details are limited on the new Z06 but Chevrolet has stated ‘It will be the most track-capable Corvette ever, designed to deliver supercar levels of performance through unique powertrain, chassis and aerodynamic features.’
Rumours suggest the 506bhp 7.0-litre V8 engine used in the outgoing model could be tuned to produce around 600bhp. Production is expected to begin in late 2014.
