Wraps come off new Citroen C6 in Beijing, but UK won't get it

Citroen is revisiting its C6 executive car with an all-new model revealed at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show

The new Citroen C6 has been revealed at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show, however there are currently no plans to sell its latest flagship in Europe.

The new C6 is a 4.96m-long three-box saloon - so slightly longer than a BMW 5 Series. Citroen has not revealed any technical information or official images of the new car, beyond saying that the new vehicle “places particular emphasis on the cabin space, ambience and materials”.

Reports sugest it is based on the EMP2 platform, which makes it closely related to the China-only Dongfeng Fengshen A9. The interior gets a digital instrument cluster with a large touchscreen display, plus leather seats and wood trim for that old-school luxury feel.

There's no official word on powertrain, but it's likely to feature a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and an automatic gearbox.

Citroen’s Beijing stand will also showcase an all-electric version of the company’s China-only C-Elysee saloon. Scheduled to be launched in 2017, the EV model has a lithium-ion battery and a projected range of around 180 miles on a single charge. It features fast-charging that can replenish the battery in just 30 minutes, although the same process takes more than six hours on a regular charger.

Neither of the two Beijing show Citroens is likely to be sold in Europe. The firm is now without an official flagship in the region, after the DS 5 was split off to form part of the new standalone brand’s line-up. However, Citroen is more likely to rely on a large SUV as its range-topper in future, avoiding direct competition with established German executive saloon manufacturers in European showrooms.
