Hot Maserati Levante Trofeo SUV updated for 2020

The 572bhp Maserati Levante Trofeo SUV gets a subtle range of cosmetic and technology improvements

The range-topping Maserati Levante Trofeo performance SUV has been given a handful upgrades to keep it looking fresh alongside the newly launched Ghibli and Quattroporte Trofeo saloons.

The updated Levante Trofeo is priced from £124,940 and goes up against the likes of the Bentley Bentayga V8 and Mercedes-AMG G 63. Maserati has also confirmed that first deliveries will arrive before the end of the year.

Tweaks include some new ducts for the SUV’s front quarter panels, updated badges and a fresh pair of “boomerang” style rear light clusters. Inside, there’s also a new wireless smartphone charger and an improved version of the old car’s 8.4-inch infotainment system.

There’s also a choice of two premium sound systems; as standard, buyers get a 10-speaker, 650W Harman-Kardon setup although a 15-speaker, 1,280W Bowers & Wilkins stereo is available as an optional extra.

Like the outgoing model, the revised Levante Trofeo is powered by a Ferrari-sourced twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8, which develops 572bhp and 730Nm of torque. The engine sends power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, providing a 0–62mph time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 186mph.

The Levante Trofeo’s suspension is unchanged over the outgoing model, so buyers get the same double wishbone setup at the front and multi-link system at the rear. There’s also the same range of supporting upgrades, including adaptive dampers, bigger brakes, 22-inch alloy wheels, grippy Pirelli P Zero tyres and a limited-slip differential at the rear.

Buyers also get an arsenal of safety technology, including lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and a sophisticated traction control system. Maserati’s active driving assist system is also included, which can near-enough assume control of the vehicle on motorways, providing the driver keeps their hands on the wheel.
