It’s been a two-year wait, but Chevrolet has finally revealed the production version of its Orlando MPV. The concept car impressed at the Paris show in 2008, and the finished version of its seven-seater people carrier retains the striking looks.
Designed to blend the chunky looks of a crossover with a traditional MPV, the Orlando features a low, swept roofline, flared wheelarches and the traditional Chevrolet split front grille.
On the inside, the Orlando gets a flexible seven-seat layout where the second and third rows of seats are mounted higher than those in the front for a better view for rear-seat passengers. Designed with a family in mind, the Orlando interior also features a host of cubby holes and storage areas, plus Chevrolet claims it has one of the biggest boots of any MPV.
The Orlando is based on the underpinnings of the Chevrolet Cruze, and will launch with three engine choices – a 139bhp 1.8-litre petrol and low and high power 2.0-litre diesels which produce 129bhp and 161bhp respectively.
Set to go on sale in the UK early in 2011, buyers will have the choice of four Orlando trim levels, but all cars will be generously equipped with electronic stability control, six air-bags, air conditioning and electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors fitted to all cars.
The Orlando is just one of four cars that Chevrolet showed off in Paris, and starts an aggressive expansion programme for the firm which will see seven new cars launched in the European market in the next 15 months.

Who is going to buy this? The Ford Galaxy looks much better, and with new competition on the way from SEAT and VW, it looks like its out of date already. At least it will have the low price to boost sales.
Besides- it probably won't fall apart within 2-3 years like many VW's my friends have owned.
just another crappy car built under the chevy brand,it's a joke like the Americans would ever drive a 1.8lt mpv.Why do these American companies keep producing rubbish cars for Europe, they must have a right laugh in the boardroom. Its a sure fire way to lose money quickly. The best American branded car sold over here recently is the 300c and thats probably due to it being based on a E Class merc and being built in Europe.
If you want a cheap MPV and don't really enjoy driving then go for a Kia or Hyundai because they at least have good warranties and reliability.
The only thing about this, thing, that strikes any emotion whats so ever is the badge - and that is sorrow. Everything from there backwards is soooo last millennium. What a waste of a brand. Dire!
Chevrolet, and Dodge, just keep producing these hideous vehicles that nobody would wish to be seen dead in. Coupled with wide reports of unreliability and disposable interiors - just who are they going to flog these to?
Lets face it, most MPVs are just vans with windows. Just look at the ugly offerings from VW (old and new), Seat (ditto), Renault, Citroen, Ford and, oh my god, Ssan YYong etc. '
'So gentlemen, we need a design for our new MPV, what sort of box with a slopping front are we going for?'
At least this has a bit of shape to it, not sure if its as nice looking as the Dodge Journey, but it is promising. It makes a change to find a people carrier which is not solely aimed at mums!
Hopefully it will also have the Journey's other advantage, and not cost an arm and a leg like most 7 seaters.
