Chrysler 300 facelift breaks cover

Revised version of Chrysler's huge 300 saloon shown ahead of its debut at Detroit Motor Show.

21st December 2010

Meet the new Chrysler 300. The facelifted version of the outgoing 300C saloon will make its debut at the Detroit Motor Show next month.

At the front, the 300 features a toned-down, less monolithic nose than the one that dominates the current car. There is still chrome in abundance, but the more rounded bonnet and grille soften the car’s appearance. The headlights are new too, and feature C-shaped LED daytime running lights.

The car’s taillights have also been tweaked, and there’s a new chrome strip which runs beneath the bootlid.

On the inside, Chrysler promises an hike in quality, and has added an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment package better leather and new trim materials.

In the US, the car gets a 3.6-litre V6 and 5.7-litre V8. However, the UK model is likely to stick with the 3.0-litre V6 diesel available with manual or auto gearboxes.

The car shown here is in full US-spec, so expect a little less chrome on the UK model which won’t go on sale until late 2011. The 300 will retain its Chrysler badge in the UK, where it will be joined by the 2011 Grand Voyager, and the Delta and Ypsilon, which are rebadged Lancias.

I think it looks absolutely fantastic! A breath of fresh air from the Dull Euro models currently in the segment. Although, Im not sure why it is classed as a Facelift when it sits on a new platform, has completely new interior design, a completley new body work design, new engine, new steering and suspension design. How is that a facelift? Also, it wont stick with the current 3.0 V6 diesel, its getting a new VM Motori 3.0 V6 diesel with a power increase of about 40BHP.
Poor reporting, But love the car.

When you look at it carefully the front has change a bit. But back is a little still the same. You wouldn't not want it to look anything like the early amercian cars from 60's to 90's look would you?

Edging toward the Audi grill?

Why do manufacturers just copy each other, it is one fad design after another, tiresome! Any original thinking designers out there?

bland

old fashioned grille and modern lights dont do it for me, guess the customisers of this world will sort that out, interior looks very impressive tho

What an Unorigional monster

How could anybody like this barge which is merely an uninspired styling attempt to copy a 40 year old Rover, Big, ungainly and in today`s motoring scene expensive to run and not very practical to own.

Less like a Bentley?

I thought the secret of the current model's success here was that at a quick glance it passed for a Bentley, at least when fitted with the mesh grille.

Will have to see if this one can look as elegant, if modified. I somehow doubt it!

Padre

Maybe the designers spent too much time looking at the cartoon movie "Cars".

DESIGN.......WHAT A LIE!!!

I quite like this, for a monster yank tank, but would never buy one. So is it a brand new car, or merely a facelift. Chrysler were well overdue to fix the insides......the car got bagged out of the ring for crap plastic interiors. But to praise Chrysler, at least they dont foist over 70 buttons on a centre console, LIKE MB do. Have they done a single thing to reduce the slightest bit of weight from it?? Probably not. So its a 'lose' on that score too.
One day the yanks will learn if they want to 'spread the pleasure' around the world, they'll have to catch up with better cars. Bloody hell, how many cars are now just about exclusively for the yank market. Think BMW and MB, who incestuously even make some cars in America, tailored to what the yanks morays are. And that taste is definitely NOT European.
CarlyWarly, love the point you make about design. I think the world is bereft of real, proper, thinking, original, designers, and what we have are 2nd rate draftsmen or something. Non thinking copiers. I puke when I see and read what is passed off as design.
Did I mention, I wont be buying a new 300C :-((
