Updated Citroen C1

Updated Citroen C1 gets fresh styling, more equipment and CO2 emissions of 99g/km for the first time

Citroen C1

05th January 2012

The Citroen C1 city car has been updated in an attempt to keep pace with the new VW up!. Refreshed front end styling, mechanical tweaks and a cleaner three-cylinder engine have all been added.

The C1 keeps the same three-cylinder 68bhp 1.0-litre engine that it shares with its sister cars the Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo, but thanks to some minor tweaks it now emits a tax-busting 99g/km of CO2 and returns 65.7mpg when equipped with the five-speed manual gearbox.

An EGS automatic is also available, equipped with wheel-mounted paddle shifters for the first time, although that drops fuel economy and emissions to 62.8mpg and 104g/km respectively. Citroen claims revised power steering settings and re-calibrated suspension improve agility and ride comfort, too.

A smaller double chevron badge now sits on the bonnet, while the front bumper has been completely redesigned to house vertical LED running lights - a signature already seen on the DS3 and C4 Aircross - and a pair of fog lights.

Botticelli Blue, a colour already offered on the C3 and DS3, is added to the paint choices, and a chrome strip is added to the grille on mid and top-spec cars. A new leather steering wheel, a redesigned manual gear lever and leather/Alcantara upholstery are all now offered as optional extras.

The new C1 makes its world debut at the Brussels Motor Show next Tuesday. UK pricing will be confirmed closer to the on-sale date in April.

Enough to keep C1 drivers loyal.....probably not!

I've just recently sold a C1 which. apart from servicing, cost me £1.67 for a plastic cover for a wiper arm bolt and was always extremely reliable. Had Citroen introduced a new model before now, I'd have been tempted to stick with the car. This freshen-up, however, just looks like they've taken bits from the DS3 [LED lights, anyone?] and grafted them on to a design which after 7 years needs a radical update. The Aygo and 107 siblings have also been updated but, again, new models would have kept them ahead of the game. When the Up, Citigo and Mii appear next year these tweaks will start to look like too little, too late.

No Citigo Beater.

The New Skoda Citigo will easily eat into C1/Aygo/107 sales. Peugeot/Citroen and Toyota have suddenly decided to update these cars, as they see the V.A.G groups offerings as much better and fresher and will now no doubt have to lower the inflated prices to match those of the excellent Skoda Citigo.

CONTINUED SUCCESS

The DS1 will no doubt follow which is why PSA Peugeot/Citroen is riding throu some good times, people may not have noticed they sell more cars in Europe then Ford, BMW, Renault, Toyota, etc and Volkswagen have to add there junk brands Skoda (sorry if I laugh) and Seat (which may disapear) to lead sales in Europe...The DS3, DS4 & the superb DS5 are only the start..keep it up Citroen.

Skoda constantly outperform Citroen.

Amazing how VW's 'junk' brand (Skoda), as you put it, ALWAYS outperforms Citroen in any road test report, in any consumer survey and has quality Citroen can only dream of. (Yes, I have had a Citroen - it was crap!). Oh, and the Peugeot S2000 has now been beaten 2 years running by Skoda Fabia S2000 in the IRC . Still think Skoda are a junk brand? Think again and read the Driver Power awards - Skoda are Number 1 - where's Citroen or Peugeot????

The thread is getting off the point rather. Let me continue the process!

My only experience of Skodas is as a passenger in taxicabs. The last was this week in a 11 plate diesel Octavia. Evidently it was to a base specification; no matter. What did matter was the hard, badly shaped rear seat which was quite the worse experienced in a family sized car. Instant backache!

I was very surprised to experience a power unit that reminded me of the Perkins motor used in taxis during the bad old days. Diesel knock a plenty plus vibration through the floor to the soles of my feet. Was this typical of the breed or just a bad example?

On this showing this is a utilitarian car (nothing wrong in that) that warrants no more than a utilitarian price. If you want a refined diesel go in the direction of Vauxhall or Peugeot/Citroen.

I am going to have to remind you that Skoda is a Czech co. saved from bankruptsy by a German co. VW, they are now a puppet and always will be of VW, VW will never let them be anything else, I live in Valencia and drive long distance, 21 countries in the last 2 years, I did look at a Passat, but they did not have active suspension, wake you up if you full asleep, blind spot monitor, seat massage, I could go on..put 5 people and luggage in a Skoda/VW and your headlights will be looking at the sky, get a punture and your dead, I could'nt risk it sorry, oh Citroen are World Rally Champions, and the most successful racing team ever, including Ferarri...fact and Seb Loeb has just overtaken Micheal Shcumaker as most successfull driver of all time, brought throu Citroen academy from 13, not bad aye..lol

i really hate it when i see these cars driving around. i feel sorry for them too. they are small, insignificant little cars. They're very noisy and uncomfortable. Small family cars like the yaris are small enough, i say. It's getting abit ridiculuous how small these cars are getting. 4 doors is pushing it too much!
