Peugeot has confirmed its engine line-up for the new Peugeot 208 supermini, and all the diesels will have sub-100g/km emissions. A new 1.0-litre three cylinder petrol engine will also dip under the magic 100g/km threshold.
Four of the five diesels on offer will be fitted with Peugeot's e-HDi micro hybrid Stop and Start system.
First up is the 68bhp 1.4-litre diesel, which emits 87g/km and returns 83.1mpg fuel economy with Stop and Start. It is also available without Stop and Start, with the figures rising to 98g/km and 74.3mpg.
A 92bhp 1.6-litre diesel offers identical figures, when fitted with either a five-speed manual or six-speed automated manual. A 115bhp version of the same engine is paired to a six-speed manual and does 99g/km and 74.3mpg.
The new 1.0 VTi petrol is offered with a five-speed manual and delivers 99g/km and 65.7mpg. An 82bhp 1.2 (104g/km and 62.8mpg), a 95bhp 1.4 (129g/km and 50.4mpg), a 120bhp 1.6 (134g/km and 48.7mpg) and six-speed 1.8 (135g/km and 48.7mpg) are also available.
The new 208 goes on sale in the UK in June.

A new 208 with a 1.0 3 Cylinder engine? It's lighter than the old one and it seems like Peugeot are getting their acts together in the dynamics dept, and it looks slick for a little'un, this could be all the car some people need, or maybe just me.
I'm in the market for a cheap short-mid commute car (and only car) and don't want to be shelling out shed-loads of cash on stupid running costs, I'd rather spend the extra on some nice getaways / home improvements / whatever... This ticks all the boxes for me;-)
Presumably the 1.0 VTi engine, at 99gm/km, is the same as the updated 107. This is shared with the Aygo and C1, but when the Yaris came out in the late nineties its 1.0 VVTi 4 cylinder engine was very advanced, yet seems to have disappeared in favour of a 3 cylinder set-up.
The styling does seem overly fussy,IMO, yet it'll probably sell in shed loads until, presumably, the 209 comes along.
Still, it may look better in the flesh.
The 1.0 3 cylinder engine is based on the current range of 1.4 and 1.6 VTi engines, not the unit used in the 107 etc.
I'm not happy to see that they still aren't putting a 6 Speed gearbox on the HDi 92! Surely this would help efficiency even more considering even the Toyota Auris gets a 6 speed box throughout the range!
