Set to be unveiled at the Swiss show next month, and based on the 156 load-lugger, the Crosswagon features bigger suspension springs which give it an extra six centimetres of ground clearance. It also has special dual-purpose tyres.
However, it is the permanent four-wheel-drive set-up and three differentials that will ensure the car can prove its mettle off-road. Under the bonnet is a 1.9-litre JTD unit delivering 150bhp, mated to a six-speed gearbox. If this model proves popular, other engines will also be offered. Prices have yet to be set, but the Crosswagon is likely to carry a substantial premium over the £18,550 1.9 JTD 156 Sportwagon.
