Position in the Top 100 cars: 91st

The French firm is one of the most innovative car makers around, but according to Scenic and Grand Scenic owners, it needs to concentrate on the basics. Although 15th for
practicality is a fine score, the rest of the Scenic’s result sheet fails to impress.

Second to last for both reliability and build quality are worrying scores for a car designed to be a home-from-home on the road.

Manufacturer Verdict (Position: 34th)

Although it’s ahead of rival Peugeot, Renault won’t be happy to be second from bottom. Bosses will be hoping the new Twingo, Mégane and Laguna ranges can improve its standing next year.

Apart from the blower fan 2nd speed not working and the clutch pedal rubber coming off (which had to be replaced), nothing else has gone wrong. Also O/S/R door protector (plastic) trim appears to be loose & the fuel consumption (according to the on-board computer) has dropped from 38 mpg to 33 mpg (despite keeping to variable servicing schedule done by the main dealer) but this could be due to more town running than previously.

Just a brilliant car, after taking all factors into consideration ! a combination of many points that i was looking for , not just the ability to burn off everyone in sight , and corner like a F1(a la Clarkson) though my 2.0 dci 160 is ample in that department. It is just that after having tried all the alternatives, this car ticked all the boxes for me. so far not been disappointed with my choice !

Very practical, easy to drive with excellent view. Good handling and surprisingly quick for an mpv. Seating for 7 is very tight and only good for short journeys or small people in the rear pop-up seats. Good load capacity and plenty of useful storage areas. Economy satisfactory at 30 mpg all round. Tyres expensive and limited manufacturers.

I bought it because it was the measure other similar types of car maker used to judge their product against, and it has lived vup to that mark.
It is not the best in any one feature, but overall it is very difficult to find a better vehicle for the task it was designed for.

When I chose it, it was because every other car at the time used it as a bench-mark. That has proved to be a very good way to make a decision.

Good, generally reliable, economical car. First major fault has only just occurred after 16 months of ownership. The alternator packed up.
