Tyre pressure gauges

It's essential that your vehicle's tyres are inflated correctly - but which is the best gauge to help you do so? We test 12

Want to cut your fuel bills? One of the quickest and easiest ways is to make sure your tyres are properly inflated. Running them at only 3psi (pounds per square inch) below the correct pressure can throw fuel economy out by one per cent. This may not sound a lot, but it all adds up, as well as leading to premature tyre wear. A pressure gauge costs only a few pounds and is a sound investment for any motorist.

But which model should you go for? We put 12 of the best to the test in order to find out.

Before starting, we were convinced that a digital gauge would end up taking the plaudits in this test. So it was a pleasant surprise when the Race X Professional put in such an impressive performance. This one took the top spot because it has bar and psi readings as well as a clear layout, and was accurate in its measurements. Halfords' consistent Digital Gauge finished a close second, while the Accutire Mechanic's Digital Gauge came third thanks to its large and clear display.
