Vredestein Quatrac review

The Vredestein is still at its best in the snow

  • Score: 97.7%
  • Ranking: 4th
  • Price: £104

When we last tested the Quatrac, it was overly biased towards snow performance. It was still strong in the snow this time, but delivered a slightly more even set of attributes to take fourth overall – just. It finished a strong third in all the snow tests; it was only 0.3sec behind the best on lap time and was grippy and confident in the low-speed sections, but  a bit too keen to slide in the quicker parts.

It was joint fourth in the key wet braking test, taking two metres longer to stop from 50mph than the best, and this time it delivered around the wet handling circuit, too, scoring its highest placing, second. As in the snow, it was impressive at lower speeds, getting into and out of the tighter corners very effectively but then felt a little loose in the high-speed sweeps. Third and fourth in the straight and curved aquaplaning tests rounded off a solid wet performance.

It was mid-pack in dry braking and sixth and last in dry handling, with a scrubby feel and less agile responses than the best, so it needed to be bullied a little to find the best lines. It was average for rolling resistance and at the higher end for measured cabin noise.

We say:

“A tyre that prioritises snow performance but is good in the wet and fair in dry conditions.”

Blackcircles.com says:

“Customers rate this tyre 4.5/5 overall. Noted for its good performance in wet and dry conditions, as well as a quiet drive and strong grip.”
