It's the Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV Roadster!

Lamborghini reveals the £350k, 740bhp Aventador SV Roadster at Pebble Beach

The Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce Roadster has arrived and, as expected, it's not for the faint-hearted. The latest open-topped Lambo has been revealed to the world at Pebble Beach and Monterey Car Week in the US. The car had already been seen undisguised in spy shots - but now we have official images showing the 740bhp V12 machine in all its glory.

The pictures confirm that the SV Roadster follows the styling themes that mark the SV coupe out from a standard Aventador. There's a gaping rear diffuser, slashed side-sills, a jutting front bumper and a massive motorsport-style fixed rear wing.

The Aventador SV Roadster uses the same V12 engine as the hard-top SV, with the 740bhp maximum power output at 8,500rpm giving a 0-62mph time of just 2.9s - just 0.1s slower than the coupe. The top speed is identical to the coupe at 217mph.

That mind-blowing performance is helped by the SV Roadster's dry weight of 1,575kg which is only 50kg more than the coupe's. This has been achieved with the aid of a quick-release removable hard-top roof made from carbon fibre, comprised of two panels weighing only 6kg each. The Roadster also features a pop-up rear windscreen that's deployed via a button on the dash to tone down the buffeting that occupants are sure to get when then the open-top SV picks up its heels.

All 600 versions of the Aventador LP750-4 SV coupe are sold out, but Lambo is taking orders on the 500 Roadsters it's planning to produce with first deliveries slated for spring 2016. Buyers lucky enough to be able to place an order for the £350,000 car get the choice of five bodywork colours plus either matt black or carbon fibre roof panels. Beyond that, there's Lamborghini's full range of Ad Personam personalisation options for buyers to create their own Aventador LP750-4 SV Roadster according to taste - or not, as the case may be.

How Lambo boss first revealed SV Roadster plans

The news that an Aventador SV Roadster was in the pipeline came at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the SV coupe was making its driving debut in the UK. Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann told Auto Express that customer demand is already strong, even though it wouldn't be officially revealed until now.

“We have already sold all 600 Superveloce coupes, and now we are taking orders for the 500 roadsters,” he told us. “However, even though we haven’t shown the new car, there's already lots of interest from buyers.”

In other Lamborghini news Winkelmann confirmed that the Urus SUV is well on the way to becoming a reality, and is likely to appear in production form in 2018. The final car will have design tweaks over the original concept, while the company has yet to confirm engine specs, although Winkelmann wouldn’t rule out hybrid drive. “For an SUV, it’s less important to go for pure sports car power,” he told us.

“So a hybrid could appear in the Urus. Whatever the plan, we have expanded our factory in Sant’Agata to give us double the manufacturing capacity for our new models.”

Talking of new models, Winkelmann confirmed that while Lamborghini will still build exclusive models like the Sesto Elemento and Aventador J, it wouldn’t be revealing anything at this September’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Also, while Lamborghini is now getting heavily involved in motorsport with its Super Trofeo one-make and GT3 series programmes with the Huracan, planes for a Superleggera version of the small coupe are some way off.
