Mercedes has revealed the new 518bhp ML63 AMG will cost from £82,995 when it goes on sale in August. That's around £2,000 cheaper than the 493bhp Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
Power comes from a 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8, instead of the old 6.3-litre V8. This can be boosted to 549bhp and 750Nm of torque with the AMG Performance Package (a £6,165 option). The 0-62mph sprint takes 4.8 seconds (a tenth of a second behind the Cayenne Turbo) while the top speed is limited to 155mph, unless you specify the £2,820 Driver's Package, which raises the top speed to 174mph.
Despite producing more power than its predecessor, Mercedes has managed to reduce the flagship ML's fuel consumption by 40 per cent to 23.9mpg with CO2 emimssions of 276g/km. That's thanks to the efficient seven-speed automatic gearbox, stop-start and the use of a smaller turbocharged engine.
Standard equipment includes firmer sports suspension, 20-inch alloys, uprated brakes and self-levelling air-suspension. On the outside, there's unique LED lights, a sports exhaust and a chunky bodykit.
