Proton has chosen its home motorshow in Kuala Lumpur to unveil a pair of performance models.

The firm already builds a rebadged version of the standard Lancer called the Inspira, and now has unveiled this sport prototype version called the Jebat. It Jebat features a wide body kit with enlarged wheelarches and a small rear wing, plus a contrasting white and matte black paint finish. On the inside, the car benefits from Recaro sports seats and a touchscreen Clarion audio system.

The Jebat is powered by a 237bhp version of Mitsubishi’s turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is considerably less than the lowest power Evo FQ300’s 300bhp here. It’s still four-wheel drive however, and completes the 0-62mph sprint in 5.6 seconds and tops out at 144 mph. The Evo FQ300 manages 4.7 seconds and 155mph respectively.

Proton also showed off a highly tuned version of its Satria Neo hatchback. Called the R3 Concept, the supermini featured a tuned 1.6-litre engine which produces 200bhp and 200Nm, which is connected to a close-ratio gearbox.

Upgraded AP brakes, Ohlins coil over suspension and a set of lightweight 15-inch alloys wrapped in semi-slick Bridgestone tyres also make an appearance. On the inside, the motorsport theme continues with a rollcage, racing seats and harnesses.

There are no plans to build the R3 yet. However, Proton is currently evaluating whether to spend more on its IRC rally effort, run by Brit team Mellors Elliot Motorsport. If this gets the go-ahead, expect a hot road-going model to follow to take on the VW Polo GTI and forthcoming Ford Fiesta ST.

OMG!
I could draw that proton!
The fact that Mitsubishi let them design something like this shows how rubbish Proton is.
Proton should be called Electron because there is nothing positive about ANY of their cars. Yes, they own Lotus, but I've driven the Satria (where Lotus apparently worked on the chassis) is totally rubbish.
An american car has better quality, power and fuel economy!
Don't build the R3, the interior from the plastic in a milk tray is better quality!

Proton have always been rubbish

They clone an evo and make it slower??? lucky for them they're propped up by Malaysian taxpayers.

Why?

Why do Mitsubishi let them vandalise their cars?

I was considering a Lancer. I don't think I will if there is going to be cloned crap like this knocking around.
