The five-door sedan came on the market in 1993, followed by the second generation in year 2000. Now the new model is being developed under the code name X91, and here are first spy-shots of a prototype during top secret testing in Southern Europe. Laguna 3 is an all-new car, and the prototype shots already reveal the rounder styling. In particular Renault is striving hard to improve the new Laguna’s quality, which had decreased considerably with the current model – and consequently, Renault lost customers in their market section dominated by the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, Mercedes C-class, VW Passat and the next Ford Mondeo. Like these, the new French will be available in saloon and estate guise.

The new Laguna will measure 10 cm more in overall length than its predecessor, and it will be powered by petrol and diesel engines ranging from 115 to 245 bhp. The latter is a V6 3.5 litre powerplant from Nissan which is already being used in the Espace and Velsatis.
