Car maintenance and washing your vehicle can be helped by this handy selection of wash mitts

You've got to hand it to wash mitts – they’ve transformed winter car cleaning. The microfibre noodles protect your car’s body from scratches thanks to their huge capacity for absorbing water, but are also kind to your hands. With workshop gloves on inside the mitt, hands can survive the winter cold, plus the noodles protect fingers from knocks – and often all for well under a tenner. What’s not to like? So which is the one to make keeping your car clean painless this winter? We slipped on 10 to find out.

How we tested them

Plenty of water is key to lifting off grime, so we assessed how much each mitt could absorb. We weighed them dry, and then after being soaked and allowed to drain for 30 seconds. The fit of the mitt was also assessed for easy control in tight spots like grilles and wheels, plus we checked how effectively each mitt cleaned. We also looked for machine washing and mesh panels for removing tough grime. Finally, price excluding delivery from a range of online and high street sources was taken into account.

It's yet another victory for serial winner Kent – the 2 in 1 Noodle Mitt ticks just about all our boxes for under a fiver. The compact Sakura is easy to use and costs less than the Kent, but can’t match its water capacity, while Dodo Juice makes the podium with its Captain Canoodle mitt.
