Compared with the hard-top BMW 4 Series, the 4 Series Convertible is more of a comfort-focused cruiser. That’s a good thing because, depending on which model you pick, it can be 295kg heavier than the Coupe, which doesn’t make for great handling. Still, with the top down and optional wind deflector in place, there’s barely any buffeting in the cabin.

The BMW 4 Series Convertible replaced the old 3 Series Convertible in the BMW range. The car uses the body and interior of the 4 Series Coupe, but swaps its fixed roof for a three-piece folding metal roof which tucks away neatly into the boot.

Something else to consider is that the BMW 4 Series Convertible attracts a £4,000-£6,000 premium over the coupe, depending on the model. While a mark-up is to be expected, that might put some buyers off, especially with Cabriolet prices starting a few bob shy of £40,000…
