Ferrari is launching an investigation into the causes of a small number of vehicle fires involving its new 458 Italia. The move comes as pictures of three separate 458 fires have circulated on the internet.

One 458 Italia in Paris, one in California and one in China have succumbed to fires which are now being investigated local Ferrari outlets with assistance from the firm’s base in Maranello. A further car was destroyed, amongst many others, in a warehouse fire at Heathrow airport.

A spokesman for the firm said, “Ferrari takes any incident involving one of our vehicles very seriously. The company is currently investigating the particular incidents in which vehicles have apparently been involved in a vehicle fire, and it is currently treating these as separate incidents.

Until these investigations are complete, Ferrari is unable to provide any further comment.”

Not sure if this is tragic or ironic. The 458 has been raved about universally, which rarely happens with a Ferrari.

Perhaps it will all turn out well, like it did with Audi's TT. After a few oversteered off high speed bends they made a few tweaks, recalled the originals, and created a huge success and an iconic design.
