New 2019 Skoda Citigo e iV: pricing confirmed

Skoda's all-electric Citigo e iV will go on sale in December, from £16,955 including the government’s plug-in car grant

The Skoda Citigo e iV – the Czech brand’s first ever production electric vehicle – will go on sale in December priced from £16,955, once the government’s £3,500 plug-in car grant has been applied. The compact EV is based on the same platform as the conventionally powered Skoda Citigo and has a claimed WLTP range of up to 170 miles.

The Skoda Citigo e iV’s styling doesn’t change drastically compared to its petrol powered stablemate. The only real changes are limited to a body-coloured blanked-off radiator grille, a smoother front bumper, a charging socket in place of the fuel filler nozzle and a fresh set of aerodynamically-efficient alloy wheels alongside the e iV badging. LED running lights are standard and indicators have been placed on the wing mirrors.

Inside, some minor revisions can be spotted. The instrument panel has been redesigned, while all versions of the Citigo e iV come with Skoda’s Swing II radio setup, a smartphone docking station, new online mobile services allowing owners to remotely interact with the car, and lane keep assist.

Far more interesting is the Citigo e iV’s powertrain. While the sole electric motor driving the front wheels is unchanged from the Volkswagen e-up! and still develops 81bhp, the battery pack swells in size compared to that car.

Skoda says Citigo e iV’s battery pack has a capacity of 36.8kWh, which the brand says will offer a range of between 140 and 170 miles under WLTP rules. The electric motor’s maximum torque figure of 210Nm is served up instantly, with Skoda claiming that the Citigo e iV is capable of a 0–62mph time of 12.5 seconds and a top speed of 81mph.

The Citigo e iV does not offer support for 100kW rapid charging technology. The battery takes one hour to recharge from flat to 80 per cent using a CCS compatible 40kW fast charger. Through a 7.2kWh wall box, an 80 per cent recharge takes just over four hours.

Skoda has confirmed two trim levels for its all-electric Citigo variant. The base-model Citigo e iV SE features is kitted out with 14-inch steel wheels, climate control, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, a DAB radio and remote central locking.

The higher-spec Citigo e iV L is priced from £19,315 including the government grant and adds a range of additional equipment, including 16-inch alloy wheels, an ambient interior lighting system, heated front seats, rear parking sensors and body coloured door mirrors, as well as a standard-fitment CCS 40kW charging socket.

The Skoda Citigo e iV kicks off the Czech brand’s offensive into the electrified car market, joined by the firm’s new plug-in hybrid Superb iV. Christian Strube, Skoda’s Board Member for Technical Development said: “The Superb iV plug‑in hybrid and the Citigo e iV are just the beginning. The first all‑electric Skoda based on Volkswagen Group’s MEB modular electric car platform will follow as early as 2020.”
