Large Company Car of the Year 2023: BMW iX

The BMW iX is the 2023 Auto Express Large Company Car of the Year, with the Genesis Electrified G80 and Volkswagen ID. Buzz commended

Even the highest-flying company car users want to trim their bills where they can, which is why our Large Company Car shortlist for this year is dominated by electric cars. And why 2023 brings a win for the fantastic BMW iX: a car that combines minimal Benefit-in-Kind costs with staggering ability elsewhere.

After the slog of a long working day, it’s easy to appreciate a relaxing, comfortable car, and little else on the market comes close to the iX’s level of refinement. While the BMW looks space-age inside and out, it’s the cabin where it’s easiest to appreciate. The seats offer superb comfort and sooth you on long journeys, while every passenger has more than enough space to marvel at the flawless build quality and concept car-like interior design.

Things only get better on the move. The iX is incredibly peaceful; below 30mph, the gentle breeze from the climate control is the most audible thing inside, and it remains superbly hushed on the motorway. The ride is incredible regardless of how fast you’re moving, yet the iX handles as sharply as you’d expect a BMW to.

A choice of 76.6kWh and 111.5kWh batteries – the latter good for 382 miles of range – gives company-car users the options they need, based on how far they want to travel. Meanwhile, the M60 M Performance model delivers with its performance and handling.

Our choice

BMW iX xDrive40 M Sport (£72,905)

While the 50 model offers that vast range, the more affordable xDrive40 edition can still cover genuinely long distances between charges thanks to sound efficiency. Yet it still feels every bit as special to drive and to sit in as the priciest model.

Commended

Genesis Electrified G80

We’re fond of the combustion-engined G80, but the model is at its best with an electric powertrain; dual motors produce 364bhp, while an 87.2kWh battery gives a 323-mile range. Those who would rather let a chauffeur drive will be greeted by superb space and comfort in the back seats.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz

The ID. Buzz proves that a company car needn’t be short on fun or charm. While the VW’s styling turns heads like little else on the road, the boxy shape also delivers vast interior space, along with plenty of practical touches. A comfortable ride and strong refinement work well with its easygoing nature.
