Why do AE always have a default auto-start video clip on nearly every page? I don't believe people are always interested and a simple link to view at readers discretion would be far better rather than being forced to wait for it to stream when we don't wish to watch!
Apart from that, agree with above. Install a class-competetive engine (God! Why persist with this old K series???) plus a good diesel + hire someone from VAG to focus on the interior quality and then MG would really have something as it looks surpisingly good in the flesh.
No wonder MG have shot a black MG against a black background for its publicity shots.
It makes a Wartburg Knight look like a Ferrari!

The only thing that will make this make a success now is low cost and an extensive warranty. Especially since i read that it is fitted with an uprated version of the "K" series engine.

Na...... the Ford has lame styling and design throughout which is unforgivable so it deserves no more than 2nd place. No wait.... actually, I prefer the MG to the Ford, so 3rd place it is!

It is a vastly modified version of the K series engine which has been developed and used in the latest TF with no head gasket problems at all.
The car may not be perfect but people who have bought them (yes they have sold some) seem to love them.
Give the car a chance - and go and drive one before you right it off!
It does need the diesel version to follow on quickly though!
As above comment, drive it! I did and loved it so much I'm buying one! Well the saloon. K series is now an N series and although similar in design to the K, the N has no parts commonality with the K. The head gasket fault was, for not a lot of money, completely fixable. As the N is a massively re worked K this issue has been eliminated. The cabin is pretty good, this well below par thing is journo hype, touch the lower half of any car interior, the scratchy noise from your finger tips is the same from Ford to Toyota! I'd rather have a diesel, but don't want to wait!
Well well. For some, it's any excuse for MG Rover bashing. the thing is, when you look deeply at some of the negative comments you come to realsise one startling fact, the authors have no experience of the MG6 and have probably not even seen one in the flesh. Their rancid assumptions are based on old fashioned mis-information or just plain lies - made-up stories that have grown and circulated, un-challenged and not based on any coherant fact. So, as an owner of an MG6, let me put the record traight as far as I see it, based on experience and fact.
Firstly, let's get the myth about the K-series out of the way. So far as it is concerned, the HG weakness was sorted out prior to MG Rover going into administration, way before actually. Futhermore, the problem was greatly exaggerated by many of the motoring press, and proof of this can be easily obtained from the warranty return figures which compare admirably to some of MG Rover's rivales, BMW for example.
Now, let's get on to the MG6. This has an N-series engine, currently only a 1.8 is available, though MG Motor are in the advance design stages (and I believe they are now in test production) of a 2ltr petrol and a wholey new MG design diesel. My car - a TSE - is now three wekks old and I can tell you this much. I've driven all sorts of cars in my time and although I owned an MGZS prior to the 6, I mainly drove a Ford Focus for work. The MG6 is superior in every respect I can think of. I am not a nerd of cars or one that thinks that anything with a continental badge is worth greater praise than say one from Japan or Britain. But what I can tell you is that the frive is utterly sweet, fun, different and yes, exciting. And after all, isn't that what we want in a car, not just a functional box with a dandy grille badge.
The designers at MG who provided this car deserve great credit, especially for the chassis dynamics, this is something you have to experience to describe it. The level of kit and the build quality is superb. but more than that, I want others to see can be done at Longbridge. MG Rover had some of the finest engineers in the business but didn't have the capital to turn those ideas into products. Now they have and the new owners are deadly serious it seems. Don't look back at some half-baked cock-eyed un-truth that happened to some uncle's best friends, son's, girlfriends, brothers car seven years ago or whatever. Look forward to the future and I'll bet in five years from now when the company has full range of models and engines, you will see not just the emergence of MG on a European and global scale, but the decline of one or two established 'premium' marques. MG will be seen more inventive and a leader of design excellence that other manufacturers will follow. This and the re-alignment of the value of Sterling against the currencies of competing countries, will begin to propel MG and Longbridge on a more global scale and those who criticise today, will be eating their words in future.
Just a thought from an actual experienced MG6 owner...
Don't want to piss on your parade, but if you had just bought one, well you would say that, wouldn't you!!!
Still a second rate car but will seel to KIA drivers as an alternative. Will loose value quickly and will struggle to make the grade.

Some people actually test drive a number of cars before they make their final choice Rumour, ever tried doing that yourself? You should as it may save you a shed load of hassle and money and you never know, you may end up with a car that's actually quite decent.
The only negative vibes I get from the MG6 just now are from the engine and gearbox, which are the only reasons I won't be considering one just yet. That, and the fact there isn't a station wagon available right now. Once MG have addressed these little issues, I will be visiting an MG showroom to test drive a 2ltr petrol and diesel station wagon. I expect these to be very competitive and a lot of fun to drive having already test driven the current car.
Don't follow the MG haters and blatant racists, go test drive the MG and make up your own mind.

Don't blame AE for the video start-up. It's the fault of your browser/browser settings/computer system. On my computer the video appears as an empty box (not even downloaded) until I tell it otherwise. Learn how to use your computer properly and don't expect others to sort out your problems.
I pretty much agree with your comments on the MG, but I'll reserve judgement until we know more about the car.

I totally agree with Sclaret.
The head gasket was sorted way before MG went under, in fact it was never a head gaskett problem it was due to overheating due to a small cooling capacity.
Why do people allways KnockUK products. MG were in financial difficulty due to development overheads not because of bad products. The following were all developed at a similar time which cost millions:
Rover 75 / 75 Estate
FreeLander
Mini
BMW 1 series (yes it was going to be the new 45)
BMW raped MG for the 4 x 4 technology and stole the mini and 1 series to boot. Unfortunatly the clowns that took over just wanted a quick buck.
However they could do with a diesel pretty quickly, and again they had a common rail up and running before they went under.
Wouldn't give you a thank you for any of them.
MG - we'll have to wait 5 years at least before the Chinese get their act together. (which I am sure they will, actually) .
Alfa - ugly, silly (It's got 'hidden' door handles for heavens sake - yuk), impractical and will undoubtedly prove unreliable.
Ford - probably nice to drive etc. if you can wear a blindfold and avoid looking at it - a complete design disaster.
I'll take the Golf every time!

The one thing i realised early on was British car makers didn't give a damn about its customers.
They still don't.
This is not an MG.
Its a Chinese car.
It should be dirt cheap.
Its not.
Buy a Kia.
But a Hyundai.
Have a warranty you can trust.
How many New Kias and Hyundais will still be on the road after the huge number of old MG Rovers, still on the road, finally succomb to the scrap yard?

I commuted 220 miles a day (Chippenham to Gatwick) for 10 years in an old Rover 800 Vitesse (0-60 in 7 seconds and 143mph), try doing that in a Kia. I had to stop when it was stolen without trace.

Hi ,having owned an MGZS 120 from new (2003) I was really looking forward to my test drive in the new MG6 ,however as great an MG enthusiast as I am ,I have to say that the new MG was very disappointing. To start with the it just did not seem very responsive whether this was due to Turbo lag I do not know , road noise was very intrusive, rear vision very restricted due to the sharp angle of the rear window, rear passenger visibility via the side windows restricted due to the high sill height. I felt that the interior was a bit bland and uninspiring
On the plus side ,the gearbox was very easy to use,and the suspension ride has been improved . So to sum up ,I was glad to get back behind the wheel of my old car , it may have its faults ,such as a very hard ride etc ,but it IS much more fun to drive !!
The new MG is just too boring ,its been sanitized and just feels like any other mid sized hatch back
