A hot Lexus GS F is on the horizon, after our spies snapped this undisguised prototype taking a break from testing in Germany.
Lexus has been rumoured to be working on a GS-based BMW M5 rival ever since the old IS F appeared in 2007, but this is the first proof that it’s in development.
An obvious giveaway is the stacked quad-exhausts, clearly visible at the rear. These were used on the old IS F, and also feature on the new BMW M3-rivalling RC F Coupe, which Auto Express spied in July. More prominent bodywork, stiffer suspension, sharper steering and bigger brakes are likely to set the new car apart from the regular GS.
There’s no word on what will power the GS F, but to compete with the likes of the M5, Audi RS6 and Mercedes E63 AMG, a reworked version of the IS F’s 5.0-litre V8 with about 550bhp is expected. This would give 0-62mph in roughly 4.5 seconds.
Judging by how complete this prototype looks, a debut as soon as early 2014 seems realistic, with prices from around £70,000.
