Skoda has got some monster plans up its sleeve for 2009 – including the introduction of its Yeti compact SUV!
Proving the off-road concept was no myth, the Czech maker has announced that the Ford Kuga and Toyota RAV4 rival will appear in showrooms here in the late summer. The news was confirmed by company boss Reinhard Jung at the opening of the new Skoda technology centre in Mlada Boleslav.
A choice of front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models will be available, with the latter featuring a Haldex 4x4 system. Engine options have yet to be confirmed, but 1.8 and 2.0-litre petrols and 1.9 and 2.0-litre TDI diesels are likely.
The Yeti aims to appeal to 4x4 owners who are looking to downsize. And it’s not the only new Skoda on the horizon. An estate version of the Superb is set to go on sale next year. It will get the same engine range as the saloon, and take the fight to premium carriers such as the Audi A4 Avant and BMW 3-Series Touring.
