Safest electric cars 2024/2025

These are the cars that combine maximum safety with zero emissions

While many drivers are moving towards cutting emissions out of their motoring lives, safety is just as important as before. Thankfully, it’s not only batteries and tech that have come on by leaps and bounds in recent years, as the safest electric cars are also some of the safest cars that you can buy in general.

There’s more good news, too, as the cars that we’ve listed below don’t only boast five-star Euro NCAP safety ratings, but they come with more than enough battery range and practicality to meet all sorts of day-to-day requirements.

Maxus Mifa 7

Maxus Mifa 7 - front
  • Prices from £49,000
  • Euro NCAP Rating: 5 stars (2024)
  • Adult occupant score: 92%
  • Child occupant score: 87%
  • Vulnerable road users score: 81%
  • Safety assist score: 75%

The idea of spending nearly £50,000 on a new car from a relatively unknown brand may be a bit disconcerting, but Maxus has already made a name for itself as a purveyor of electric vans. The Maxus Mifa 7 is one of only a few seven-seater electric cars that you can currently buy in the UK, and with up to 298 miles of range on the WLTP combined cycle, along with that five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, it could certainly strike the right chord with large, eco-conscious families.

Audi Q6 e-tron

  • Euro NCAP Rating: 5 stars (2024)
  • Adult occupant score: 91%

  • Safety assist score: 80%

Volkswagen Group (Audi’s parent company) is on a bit of a safety rating roll at the moment. In fact, two of its cars appear on this very list. The Audi Q6 e-tron isn’t the most groundbreaking EV on the market, but it is a very spacious and safe one. With 526 litres of boot space and plenty of room for five passengers, the Q6 makes a strong case for itself as a family car. It’s technically classed as a mid-size SUV, but at 4,771mm in length and 1,702mm in height, this particular Audi is not for the faint of heart when navigating narrow streets.

Cupra Tavascan

Cupra Tavascan - front tracking
  • Prices from £47,500
  • Euro NCAP Rating: 5 stars (2024)
  • Adult occupant score: 89%
  • Child occupant score: 86%
  • Vulnerable road users score: 80%
  • Safety assist score: 79%

The Cupra Tavascan is the brand’s most convincing EV yet. Not only does it feel like a quality car in general, but this mid-size SUV is very refined on the move, too. While the styling and badge may suggest some sporting flair, this is mostly cosmetic as the Tavascan isn’t the most engaging car to drive. That being said, for those who aren’t too fussed about outright thrills, there’s still up to 335bhp on tap in order to keep up with the traffic (as well as overtake it).
