Audi S3 spy pictures

Our spy photographers catch the first glimpse of the new 280bhp Audi S3 ahead of its launch next year

These are the first pictures of the all-new Audi S3. It's seen here testing in three-door guise but the newcomer will be available as a five-door hatch and a saloon, too.

The hot A3 is marked out by quad tail-pipes – rather than the twin oval exhausts of even more extreme RS models – but other than that, it looks like a standard A3. This will change when the car makes production though, with a more aggressively styled chrome grille, rear spoiler and larger alloy wheels.

The S3 will be powered by a 280bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine - it 18bhp more than the outgoing model - mated to Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system.

It will be on of the first cars to be built on the new VW Group MQB platform, which will make its debut on the regular Audi A3 hatch this September. The new platform will also see benefit including less weight through the use of aluminum panels and increased rigidity, which will improve handling and road holding.

Expect to see the all-new Audi S3 on sale in the middle of next year with a price-tag of just over £30,000.

I thought I was looking at the old car.... Woops silly me.

that Audi's working motto must have been "Designers, knock yourselves out, use your wildest imagination".... (not).
It looks better than the car leaving, though somehow dated already.

Don't get me wrong, I think Audi had a handsome, cohesive design language across their range that started with the TT, however just because something works doesn't mean you should regurgitate a range of "Russian dolls" lookalikes?

The world of design never stands still, any manufacturer who does will inevitable be left behind!

I dunno but having spent my childhood obsessed with Ferrari Dinos and BBs etc putting 4 exhausts on a car with a 2.0L IL4 just seems wrong. Would look a lot more balanced and tasteful (the rest of the car is hardly brash) with a decent chromed oval single exit at each side a la Sirocco R.
Rest of the car looks crisp but a bit bland/samey nonetheless. Shouldn't hurt residuals of outgoing S3 too much either.

I do like Audi, but is this really the new model? Seriously? I know Audi's look normally very smart and maybe they avoided change as are possibly thinking 'don't break it, as it sells already like this'???

I hear the new SEAT Leon range shares this chassis/engine platform and apparently the 2013 model one is going to be a 3dr, 5dr as well as Sport Tourer... let's hope SEAT are allowed a little more design flair as they usually look great.

Wow they really pushed the boat out on the design ,it's so radical and fresh and different from the previous model . lol

...He took the entire talent of Audi/VW group's design department with him.

Now Audi designers mope around with long faces, replicating his old designs, but with bugger all imagination! But look at all the pretty Kia's coming out, who ever thought anyone would say that?

New acronym for Audi:

A.U.D.I

Always Use Dead Idea's!

Have to agree that this doesn't look any different from the current model. Looks dull for a hot hatch too.

Audi ... and VW ... your 'designs' - I use that word loosely - are honestly so chuffing BORING!

PS: clones of clones of clones of clones of clones ... well, you get the idea.

A kitchen appliance........in white. YUKKK!!!
