Spy shots don't come any clearer than this! Our spies have caught Volvo's curvy new S60 saloon, completely undiguised and in production trim, at a photo shoot in Sweden.
Taking its inspiration from the stunning S60 concept, which made it's debut at the Detroit Motor Show this year, the showroom-ready version features the same swooping coupe roofline and neatly rounded edges. It's even painted in the same copper-coloured paint job!
Gone are the concept's suicide doors and carved crystal centre console, but the S60 still promises to showcase some cutting edge technology. A 1.6-litre direct-injection turbo engine, mated to a twin-clutch transmission promises to deliver outstanding fuel economy and punchy performance, while advanced safety equipment such as full auto braking with pedestrian detection will come as standard.
The S60 will make its official world debut at the Detroit show early next year.
Looks great, lets hope they keep it within a sensible budget!
This is a very good looking car, well done Volvo. But there is one small problem I have with it, the arse resembles the previous gen. Ford Mondeo, other than that, I believe with this design and with the swedes taking quality alot more seriously this could really rival the Mecr C-Class and The Audi A4, A BMW 3 series killer it isnt, but trust me on this, it is going to be good.
Volvos were slowly starting to look better and better - I love the C30 - and now sadly we see the 'revised' S60, and the designers have done a no-brainer, lowest common denominator, follower rather than [design] leader, and come up with a boring bloody wedge. I heartily endorse Matt2093's comment about the ugly arse......such a shame, when Volvos always stood out - not necessarily in the glamour stakes but nevertheless with a clear design language. Now its been flushed. Is that down to Ford, or has Volvo finally escaped their clutches??
Since, the revamp of the old S60 in 2005, Volvo have really stated to find their feet in the premium sector. With the new S60 however, Volvo have really gone for a bold brand identity whilst keeping that subtle and 'less is more' Scandinavian design format. A fine car which will certainly scare the rivals. How much better it is than the bland BMW and the Brash C-Class.
Cracking Looking Motor
This car looks really interesting. I'll be in the market next year and I'm certainly going to have a good look at this car. When is it coming to the UK?
