MEET the most desirable Mondeo ever! Ford’s next-generation family favourite will bring new levels of style, luxury and efficiency to the market – and our exclusive images give a good idea of how it will look.
Following the latest Fiesta and imminent new Focus, the Mondeo will be a global car, with minor changes being made to suit individual markets around the world. It will also be built in a number of different countries, although design and engineering is taking place at Ford’s HQ in the US for the first time.
As our pictures show, the family resemblance to the new Focus is instantly apparent in the bold front, which features a much larger lower grille, swept-back headlights and pronounced ridges in the bonnet. At the rear, large chrome exhausts integrated into the bumper and a subtle bootlid spoiler hint at the Mondeo’s sporting potential. A chunky shoulder line with muscular wheelarches completes the purposeful appearance.
Inside will be Ford’s most luxurious interior ever, as the car attempts to move closer to upmarket rivals from Audi, BMW and Mercedes. The firm’s SYNC system allows drivers to control virtually any portable media device through steering wheel buttons or voice recognition technology.
In addition, the Mondeo will offer lane departure and blind spot warning systems, as well as a rear view camera. A clever Driver Alert set-up uses cameras to recognise when the owner is falling asleep at the wheel, and sounds a warning. Under the skin will be a modified version of the existing model’s front-wheel-drive platform. For the first time, the Mondeo will use a torque vectoring system, from the Focus. It will also get a new electric power-steering set-up and dynamic cornering control – all of which should boost driver involvement and improve refinement.
Power will come from Ford’s 1.6 and 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol turbo engines. In the current car, the latter produces 200bhp and returns 36mpg combined, while the 1.6 – found in the new C-MAX – will offer 150bhp and 180bhp outputs. Also available will be a range of 2.0 TDCi diesel models, with 112bhp, 137bhp or 163bhp.
A raft of eco tweaks on all models will improve economy and cut emissions. This includes regenerative braking, stop/start and an active grille system, which regulates air flow through the radiator and engine compartment to reduce drag. A concept version of the Mondeo will debut next year, after the Focus launches in January. But the bigger car is still three years away from dealers.

It's not overly cool now, in 3 yrs this thing will be old hat. That rear spoiler looks like a Halfords special that has the Carbon fibre 'look' £29.99 to go on the boot of your chav mobile! Not impressed. I'm hoping this is another AE photoshop mock up, did I say mock up?
The fantastic tech specs, excellent emissions and mpg's are let down by old clothes!
So Mr focus_your_bile clever dick. if this design is going to be old hat at launch why didn't you add that the 'fantastic tech specs, excellent emissions and mpg's' will also be out of date as well?
What seems to totally escape you and your ilk, is that you can only design something with the technology you have at hand on the day you put quill to parchment. you obviously have such a grasp of design and future technologies that I'm surprised you haven't offered your vast experience to Ford and aren't their lead designer by now!
So, why don't you you publish your design so that I can rip it to pieces from a standpoint of total ignorance?
Well done Ford, I'm sure that this latest iteration of the Mondeo will be an enormous success, as usual. I'm also sure that it must be a fantastic relief that the knockers will never buy one!!!
Mikegrace3's comment is totally over the top - you need to relax early in the morning or go on an anger management course.
That spoiler is retro to the point it is incongruous, otherwise the car fits the latest modern mould (Avensis/insignia/Passat) very well. I presume the pic is of an ST or similar model and most versions will not get the 'spoiler' (aptly named really).
Agreed, that spoiler is totally fugly; never has a car component been better named. It looks like a cheap boy racer add-on.
Sorry chaps but this smells like another photoshop attempt from AE. The designs here really don't fit Ford's new Kinetic approach and it's more a cross between the Vauxhall Vectra and the previous Audi A4. More like a 2008 design rather than a 2011/2012.
It is very surprisingly that the advanced ford design team is going to copy the Subaru Legacy.!
Martin
Now now boys ,lets not get all in a pickle over the spoiler ,to me the car looks good ,but nothing that hasent been done before so ,its just another atempted to copy someones elses deisgns ideas ,
come on ford .
Well, it couldn't look worse than the current Mazda 626 (remember that?) copy.
Another dull, derivative design. Too fussy, and lacking a pure form.
But then, this could all be down to AE's photoshop, so we'll have to wait to see it in the metal.
Ford produce some fine cars.
They should take a leaf from the japanese Manufacturers and sell their up market cars under a new brand name.
When you say Ford, i begin to yawn.
SSSssssssssssssss
Stale clothes, spoiler fails to make it look exciting or different,
Nice range of new engines, love Fords new ecoboost engine, Same old Compo clothes stuck in a 90's time warp. Lets all do the Spice Girls again.
Lets hope Fords US version is better than the AE chop, Can't see Americans wanting the Mondeo as its global car their Fusion outsells it 3:1. Mondeo Mystique was a massive sales flop for them Stateside. No doubt it will be to big for the UK, to small for the US global car.
mikegrace3 that was totally out of order! What do you drive? I as my user name suggests, I drive a Focus, a 2010 Focus 1.6TDCi Zetec with a sport pack, so I hope my opinion does matter to Ford, my next car could very well be the new Mondeo!
Hence I did not slate their fuel ecconomy, emmisions or tech stuff ,aside other things these are some of the reasons I drive a Focus Diesel. Ford have the best chassis engineering in the business, coupled to a big boot space and excellent grip and cornering. Clearly I am not a knocker of Ford! Agreed get some anger management!!

Well The front looks like the new Peugoet 508 & back the Lexus ES300. But I do like the car. The prevous Mondeo was great. I hope Australia get it the their motor Market but the skip the third Model in 2000.
Not one of you have mentioned the most important criteria, will the boot still fill with water when you open the lid in the rain?
The car looks like the Ford Taurus allready sold in America (with different grille and taillights). All the last updates in both cars make them look allways more similar. I think the Mondeo & the Taurus allready share the platform, so it was only a matter of time that they started looking the same. Particularly if Ford is going for global models.
toycollector - They do sell there up market models under another name, Lincoln.
the car you see above is just a bad photoshop of a US taurus with bits of focus/s-max thrown in for good measure... check it out for your selves.
Im sure Ford will do a much better job than that. Daft way for AE to sell copy though.
It really bugs me when AE does these types of 'exciting' news. Is AE the tabloid of the motoring world? Unless the car images are official, the AE should avoid drawing something up which it thinks the car should look. The design looks more like a Subaru from rear and side. The front looks more like the new range of Fords.
Its a bold statement that Ford will have the similar quality interior as Audi. Ford have been trying this for years and although improved still not the same quality as Audi. We cannot expect this either. For a car which costs at least £5k less than the prestigious alternative, how can they offer the 'same'?
Ford should concentrate on making reliable, well engineered cars that does not give trouble at 70k miles or less. We have many Mondeos in the fleet, it really is 50/50. Many cars fall apart and have issues with build quality and reliability. A very few cars run without any trouble.
Oh dear. I hope people on here are correct about a "Photo shopped" photo. Its truely is a ghastly car, and looks like a cheap Korean front end grill. Mind you there have been many disaters with stying at Ford. Can anyone remember the Ford Scorpio with its tear dropped eyes. The Ford Fiesta Mk3 or whatever MK it was but the one with the "droopy" headlights.
Teacher says "Can do better"
It never ceases to amaze me how AE can come up with these images claiming "this is how the car could look". How the hell could they possibly know when the vehicle is still 3 years away from production. Yes they might be able to get a "knowledgeable" NOTION about how a car might look based on current or VERY near to production models like the new Focus, but come on, THREE years down the line? Ford's whole concept of models could change in that space of time.
As for other respondents takes on these images, yes, Mazda 626 from the side does come to mind. Make that spoiler bigger at the rear and yes, instant last generation Scooby Impreza STI.
Returning to AE for a second, for pity's sake stop publishing images of something you know very little about, it could be construed as misrepresentation. If Ford DO produce something along the lines you've illustrated then I'm happy to be proved wrong, but let's wait for the official unveiling shall we?
The design and engineering taking place in the US for the first time will probably do the Mondeo no favours.
Jorge5 is correct this is a face lift for the Taurus sold in North America. I wish AE would look further a field to get thier facts right.
This is a typical AE photoshop lash up. Take a car with similar proprtions to todays Mondeo and stretch a new Focus look alike body over it. I bet Ford are nowhere near signing off the styling for the new Mondeo! I bet the finished article will bear no resemblance to this piece of make believe.
Hey AE, can you photoshop the list above, I want to see if 'Puma Slipper Woman' is as attractive as she sounds before I get my credit card out of my wallet... XD
Oh bugger, I just had a thought... What if 'Puma Slipper Woman' is the latest model by Brilliance China Automotive??? (0.0)
as mentioned by Jorge5 earlier this really is a Ford Taurus. Check Google images.
This really is sloppy journalism by A/E again. For years they have been producing images where they claim to be aware of the appearance of lots of cars. The new Jag X Type, the recent dreadful mock up of the MGTF replacement, all those mockups in the ending days of MG Rover.
This is one motoring publication that you can't take previously.
Oh dear me it seems we will have more Ford crap on the roads!
I remember AE doing a scoop on the restyled MG-ZS they used a photo from a Rover brochure and changed the head lights and grill, I thought the picture look familiar, I looked at the brochure and and almost fell of my chair laughing, it was the same car on the same stretch of road on the same position, the couldn't even be bothered to change the colour of the car or disguise the back ground. When the official car was unveiled it look bugger all like AE's version, that was six years ago, they are still up their old tricks.
People like you slate cars all the time, after mostly likely never driven one, or at least a recent one. Ford have a 19% share of the market in the UK, for many reasons; they top reliability charts, dealer satisfaction surveys, have the best mainstream chasis and Japanese reliabillity and German build quality. The Mondeo is considered better engineered, better to drive and more exclusive than a 3 Series. So I'll ask again; what do you drive?
What a dull uninteresting looking car! AE printed a picture of a new mondeo a while back. It was far better looking than this model. Still, it will appeal to Ford fans.
Why does this remind me of a glorified Mitsubishi Lancer Evo? Ah yes the window frames and door designs are similar.
I would have to say that all who have commented before me have made valid points about this design both good and bad, technology, build quality and AE photoshop skills.
I drive the current Mondeo and have had many fords and I have to say that the current direction they are taking in the design department is not good.
I think this is heavily influenced by the "World Car" and America's involvement which is making the designs appear dated and bland before they are even released.
Ford road cars have always been this way in the USA with the most of their sales being in pick ups.
I'm not a fan of the new Focus either which suffers the same fate.
AE do have a habit of drawing pictures of cars which do not end up looking like the car released by the car company.
They had released an artical and picture of their prediction of the facelift mondeo for 2010 in October 2009 which bears no resemblence of the current 2010 facelift which we have seen in the magazine this month.
And yes the Spolier really is what it says it is. Very cheap, as well are the alloy wheels.
I have to say that I may be forced to consider another brand in the future which being a loyal ford fan since childhood and owning nearly every car they have made since the MK2 escort is quite a statement. Lets hope Ford see sense or that AE images are wrong.

I stated in the above comment that AE released an article October 2009 referring to the mondeo facelift for 2010. They were in fact referring to the MkV mondeo in this article due for release 2012. Either way they still are way off the mark from their original "mock up" in comparison to this one.
Hopefully this doesn't suggest that the car above is actually closer to the actual design that will be released.
Take a look at the front ends of the latest Volvo's; V60, S60, C30 and C70 - what's the tie-in with Volvo? Anyone?
I can definitely see some other cars in this design, mainly not from Europe, such as the Ford Taurus, and I think it looks great. However I think that they should bring over some American and Australian Fords to sell in Europe - fit them with smaller engines like those from the Mondeo, and I think they would sell really well, especially the Taurus and Falcon... and the Australian Utes/Pickups.
Would rather have a Vauxhall Insignia though...
well, for me it's just ok.. i kinda expected something more grand but then again ford has its way of making their car parts look pretty down to earth.
You guys slay each other like if it was youtube comments! Harsh words on a forum only means one thing: Low self esteem. I agree that the PS can´t be anywhere near final production and AE has the tendency to be just like The Sun but take out your agrrevations somewhere else, please. Your Brits! Behave like Brits then! Ok erase that last comment.. ;-)
Has anyone noticed that AE hasn't actually bothered to comment, even in an effort to defend themselves? I wonder why that could be! Could it actually mean that they KNOW they've got it horribly wrong but are just too afraid to admit it? I wonder if Ford themselves would care to comment about this but then again I'm not holding my breath.
I have a Mondeo the best car I have ever had 3 years old and drives like a dream not a miss beat since new very sad to see it go in 3 weeks am buying a new insignia why!! because Ford have changed the auto gear box and as a Motobility disabled driver I now can,t afford to have another and they have stooped making the old gear box once again through greed Ford have lost a customer I will be very sad to leave my car at the garage.
As for the new design we are too hung up about what a car looks like on the outside Jaguar or Mondeo take off the skin and they are both the same. Go to France if it runs and get you from A to B they don,t care what it looks like, pass cars down to relations and get on with life !!!!!
I hate to break it to you; but Ford will not miss your business, Motabillity Customers do not make Ford, or any other make for that matter, any money! Motability is run as a not for profit business and manufactuers are almost forced to supply cars. Dealerships make very little too.
I've got a friend in the trade who works for VW, apparently most have nothing really wrong with them, just tax dodgers, and they get really fed up of them mostly coming back smelling of wee or worse!
So you are not buying a new Insignia, the tax payer is, oh that will be me then!
I remember back in the 70s, anyone who was in Management or sales lusted after the latest Ford.
Sadly, times have moved on, BMW,Mercedes and Audi have taken their Crown.
Isn't it time Ford took a leaf out of Toyota and Nissans book and created a new name for their prestige models in the UK.
Agree with CHARLIE_995.
Ever since they dropped the ugly duckling Scorpio (and recently got rid of Volvo) I thought they should at least import an Australian big Ford, fit 2.0 and TDCi engines.
Vauxhall too, yes they tried the big engined VXR8, but fitted with sensible 2.0 and diesel engines it could have been the new Omega.
As for the above Mondeo pictures, I have to say I quite like it. I prefer the US Taurus design anyway to the current European bulbous slab-sided Mondeo.
nice looking car, crap spoiler
ITS A BIT TO VULGAR FOR A FAMILY SALOON
Up until now I thought you to be a decent bloke FYM, but your bigoted comment about Motability customers has made me very angry. I am a Motability customer and if it wasn't for this fantastic scheme I wouldn't have any freedom at all.
I've seen you lose your rag at people for making such sweeping statements in the past and yet here you are doing exactly the same thing.
I visited a VW dealer in Kettering, Northants when I was considering a replacement for my last Motability vehicle and I have never been treated so rudely in my entire life. I would urge any potential Motability customers to steer well clear of VW dealers as they obviously share similar bigoted views to that of FYM.
On the other hand, Richard Sanders in the same town, who hold dealerships for Honda, Peugeot, Nissan and last but not least, Renault (more of which in a moment), know how to treat their less able bodied clients and I have never been treated with anything less than respect or courtesy by this dealership.
Because of this dealers excellent customer service and patience, and after test driving several models from their extensive portfolio, I settled on a Renault Grand Scenic 1.5DCi. This vehicle suits my needs perfectly, is fun to drive and is very economical. What's more, it can house my wheelchair and all my shopping without me having to lower any seats.
I agree that disabled people like myself are very lucky to have the opportunity to use this excellent scheme, and whilst it is available I will utilize it to satisfy my own needs. I would like to thank the government, and the British taxpayer for giving me the freedom able-bodied citizens take for granted.
Thank you
Dave...
It looks like an image of the old Mondeo but melting. It doesn't look good at all, it's got it's butt stuck up too high and it looks like a cheap £10,000 hatch.
I can't see why car manufactures are trying to improve all of their current cars but making them so much worse.
A lot of car manufactures are going horribly wrong these days. Ford have already had the Ka marked as one of the worst cars money can buy in the UK.
Very nice looking Ford..
Dave,
I apologise, that was an ill conceived comment. It started with good intent, then got lost in juvenille translation. sorry for the delayed reply, I've just seen your post, which was throughly decent and balanced.
Once again I apologise
Mike
it will be a great car to drive! not up for the color though..
Ah, it's okay Mike, it's all forgotten now. I've never been one to hold a grudge anyway. I do remember being incandescent with rage at the time though, which is when I usually tend to write some of my more thought provoking and prickly posts... lol
Anyway, apology very much appreciated. Now, where the hell am I going to put it? I really should have a tidy up... ;)
Regards
Dave...
