Smart has teased the upcoming ForTwo and ForFour city cars ahead of their imminent unveiling on 16 July. The image of both cars is a screenshot from a teaser video, which hints that the showroom models will draw heavily on the design of concepts car such as the Smart ForJoy and Smart ForUs.
The image doesn’t give us too much of an insight into the overall design of the cars but the familiar shape and profile from the previous generation models remain. The squared of panels have also been carried over and we can expect trademark features such the buy-eye headlights to be adopted, too.
Both the ForTwo and ForFour have been co-developed alongside the recently introduced Renault Twingo and will share a large proportion of their mechanical running gear with one another. All models on this platform will be rear-wheel drive.
There’ll be a range of engines available for the new Smart models, with the most popular likely to be the three-cylinder 89bhp petrol motor. A fully-electric FourTwo will also be offered, but we aren’t expecting to see that until early 2015. We can expect Mercedes’ tuning arm Brabus to get it’s hands on the city car, too.
A canvas-roofed version of the ForTwo will also be offered shortly after the hardtop is launched. Prices should kick off at around £10,000.
