Volvo reveals 501bhp S60 Polestar concept, which is aimed at the BMW M3 and Mercedes C63 AMG

Volvo has unveiled an S60 Polestar concept, which is designed to rival the BMW M3 and Mercedes C63 AMG with a 501bhp 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six.

Volvo claims that the Polestar can accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of more than 186mph. Just like the range-topping T6 AWD S60, the Polestar has four-wheel drive but also boasts an additional 197bhp from the same engine.

To keep all that power in check, the Polestar gets a wider track, a lowered ride height and larger anti-roll bars and engine mounts. There’s also a set of larger Brembo brakes.

As it stands, the Polestar is a one-off but Volvo could be convinced to turn it into a production model. If it does make it through to production, expect it to be toned down slightly and have a price-tag of around £50,000.

Yes please. Go on Volvo, actually make this one!
And while you're at it can we have the XC40 now?

INCREDIBLE! Volvo has to make this, and I hope they can do the same with the new V40 - that would have a real 'halo effect' on the golf rival.

I agree with the others--this MUST be built, if only in limited numbers, to generate buzz for the brand and to re-assert Volvo's performance credentials. Creating awareness of the brand's racing experience viz-a-viz this halo vehicle, will most certainly pay dividends in improved perceptions of the brand. Do it Volvo! But make damn sure it will hang in there with the best of the best; it will need to blow the doors off of at least one of the key competitors, otherwise it won't be taken seriously.
