Best new car finance deals under £150 per month

Vauxhall Viva

It’s possible to get a Vauxhall Viva on a Flexible Personal Lease scheme for £99 per month over three years with a £1,980 advanced rental deposit. The 10,000-mile annual limit is generous for a city car and the SE model on which this quote is based comes with electric windows, lane-departure warning and cruise control.

Monthly payments: £99

No. of payments: 35 monthly

Nissan Juke

The original compact crossover isn’t the best in terms of practicality, but it’s still a striking runabout – and very cheap to get your hands on, too. It’s perennially popular, so good residuals combine with a low list price and zero per cent APR to make a Juke Acenta DIG-T just £119 per month – assuming you can come up with the £5,000 deposit in the first place.

Model: Nissan Juke 1.2 DIG-T 115 Acenta

SEAT Ibiza

From the outside, you’d never tell the Ibiza was facelifted at the end of 2015, but that’s because it still looks as stylish as ever, so SEAT simply made the cabin better. A smart move, as it now features one of the best infotainment systems in the business. A three-year lease through buyacar.co.uk bags a five-door SE model for £131 per month.

Model: SEAT Ibiza SE 5dr
Monthly payments: £131
Deposit: £784
No. of payments: 35 monthly

Renault Twingo

A rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive layout marks out the latest Renault Twingo as a refreshing and unusual choice in the city car class. Mid-level Dynamique spec is the one to go for, with the 69bhp SCe engine, and it’s very accessible with a four-year finance deal that’s set up to allow a very small £159 deposit – great for young drivers. This is a cheap car to fuel and insure, too.

Hyundai i20

Supermini buyers are spoiled for choice, but the i20 offers attractive styling, solid build quality, plenty of space and impressive ride and handling. It should do an average of 50mpg, too. SE trim brings rear parking sensors, air-con and tyre pressure monitoring. Hyundai is offering a fairly modest £250 deposit contribution but also knocking £2,030 off the price.

Peugeot 208

It’s losing ground to more modern superminis, but the 208 is still stylish and good to drive, plus it offers a range of frugal engines. And as the car ages, Peugeot is making it cheaper. So, choose an Allure 1.2, and you can get a three-year lease through buyacar.co.uk for just £151 per month, with an initial payment of £906.

Model: Peugeot 208 Allure 1.2 PureTech 110

Skoda Fabia

Skoda will take a small deposit on the new Fabia in exchange for a bigger monthly outlay. But if you can find £1,500 for an up front payment, the brand will add £500 and offer you zero per cent finance. The result is £155 per month for one of the sharpest looking and spacious superminis on the market, and in the three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine, a characterful and frugal powerplant.

Fiat 500

As a straight cash purchase, Fiat’s cute 500 isn’t that cheap, but on a PCP supported with low-rate finance and a £500 deposit contribution, it looks far more attractive. The 1.2 isn’t our favourite (we like the TwinAir), but it’s fine in town. More importantly, it’s the only engine offered with three years’ free servicing plus an £800 insurance contribution for 18 to 25-year-olds.

Model: Fiat 500 1.2 69 Pop Star

Citroen C4 Cactus

The Citroen C4 Cactus is one of our favourite crossovers, with its eye-catching styling, spacious interior and forgiving ride. In addition, Flair trim brings sat-nav and a city camera pack. It’s reasonably priced too, and you can lease one through buyacar.co.uk for £169 per month with an initial payment of just over £1,000.

As well as low-rate interest, the package includes a £500 price cut and a £1,060 deposit contribution, which culminates in just £179 a month for two years. You can even enhance this ‘basic’ ST-1 trim with the Style Pack for £175 – saving £125 on the full price.

The five-door is our favourite MINI, as it’s a capable family car. And if you want your running costs to be as low as can be, Cooper D spec offers a blend of near-80mpg economy and punchy performance. Put down £3,000, sign up for four years and it’s yours for just £185 per month – provided you don’t go mad with the options list, which many buyers find it hard not to do.

Suzuki SX4 S-Cross

Suzuki is well versed in compact SUVs, so it’s no surprise that the Nissan Qashqai-rivalling SX4 S-Cross is an appealing package. It’s not glamorous, but it has true off-road ability, solid quality and efficient engines. The brand is pushing very low finance rates right now as well – only 2.9 per cent on the SX4. Payments are low, at £199 per month for a petrol SZ-T over four years.

Nissan Leaf

Take the £5,000 Government grant from the Leaf’s list price, and it suddenly looks great value. If you can live with the range of around 124 miles, then family hatchbacks don’t come any cheaper to own – Nissan estimates its running costs as just 2p per mile. This makes the finance deal of £219 a month over a two-year term even more appealing.

Kia Optima

With its attractive styling, masses of standard kit, low running costs and excellent build quality, the Optima is a credible alternative to mainstream family saloons. There are several offers available, but we’ve gone with a combination of competitive finance and a £1,500 deposit contribution – both helping to get that all-important monthly payment to less than £250.

Peugeot 308

In the 308Peugeot has made a family hatch that has a minimalist, high-quality feel and plenty of character. It’s smooth and comfortable, and the GT Line model looks the part. Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

You may have noticed a proliferation of Outlander PHEVs on the road of late. The plug-in hybrid’s proving a hit among business users looking to lower running costs and tax liability, as big 4x4s don’t come much cheaper day-to-day. It looks pricey on paper, but due to the Government’s EV grant and, in part, strong residuals, the Mitsubishi is cost-effective to buy, too.

The diesel engine is the one to go for, as it’s both punchy and economical. Plus the SE Nav trim level, as featured in the £252 per month leasing deal through buyacar.co.uk, adds an eight-inch touchscreen, satellite navigation and speed limit information system to an already impressive specification.

Land Rover Discovery Sport

Handsome and with seven seats, the Discovery Sport inherits its solid off-road pedigree from the Freelander. In fact, it’s even more polished, and hints at Land Rover’s more costly models. It’s a recent addition to the popular SUV sector, and given its rare mix of qualities, the brand clearly sees no need to offer any finance deals aside from competitive APR.
