You’ve already seen Ford’s stunning Evos concept, and now here’s the car it’s set to inspire! These sensational spy shots are our first glimpse at the next-generation Mondeo, due in 2013, and just as we revealed in last week’s mag, its sleek design will stick closely to Ford’s Frankfurt concept.
Key to the Evos’ new face is a familiar element – the big, inverted trapezoidal front grille already seen on the Fiesta, Focus and C-Max – but it’s now much higher up, replacing the old thin top grille. The badge has been refined and jumps onto the bonnet and two very slim and angular headlamps frame the new mouth.
Don’t think those great lights are too conceptual to make production either, as Ford European design boss, Martin Smith boldly asserted: “Future production cars will have headlamps so akin to this concept you won’t notice the difference.”
Take a look at the new Mondeo’s nose, and even through the heavy camouflage those slot-like lights are visible. So too is the outline of the large upper grille stretching almost to within touching distance of the lamps. Underneath a neat horizontal intake flanked by foglights is also visible. According to global design boss J Mays, “this design is about being more sophisticated, pared down and definitive, it doesn’t provoke, it seduces.”
A concept version of the Mondeo, much closer to production, is widely tipped to break cover at the Geneva Motor Show in March next year, before going on sale 12 months after that. As you’d expect, the show car’s quadruple gull-wing doors and massive wheels won’t make the showrooms, but key features will. These include the two taut feature lines, bulging rear wheel arches and raked back window graphic on each side, plus the thinner-looking front windscreen A-pillars.
As well as a wide range of EcoBoost petrol engines and 2.0 TDCi models with higher fuel efficiency than ever, the powertrain from the C-Max Energi concept car, which debuted in Detroit earlier this year, is also expected to be offered. It combines a range-extending 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver over 500 miles between fill-ups, and zero-emissions range of around 50 miles.

Hopefully the back dosnt look like a baboons arse this time...
Ford, if possible, don't call it a MONDEO, I hear that name and can't help but think of a fat, balding chav with an England top, tats and a cheap gold necklace, bring back the Sierra name plate, it has (slightly) more prestige!
Well I'll see it first When unveiled. Then I say more.
Sorry JFalck, but imo the Sierra name fits the bill of the person you are describing. Never really liked the Sierra, always seemed to have that 'banger status' and prefered the Cavalier over it. Only Sierra I liked was the saloons or the Cosworth version.
I was wrong about the 'bring back the sierra' name tag, insomnia or something! I still think that the Mondeo name has run its course, this new model looks very promising, and deserves a new name.
In whose imagination does this car in any way resemble the Evos? It looks like a current mondeo with a load of stuff stuck to it. Who on earth employs the shoddy journalists that seem to write every article on here these days? It's getting worse all the time and you just know that whatever is said in an AE article will be so far from reality as to make it pointless reading the article.
Let us hope that Ford can rediscover some design flair after the hideous new C Max, the old fashioned looking Mondeo, anonymous Ka, and worst of all the utterly hideous new Focus. I hoped the Focus might look better on the road than in pics, but actually it looks worse! Did they shoot the guy who made quite a good job of the S Max, because everything else has been a visual disaster!
Major shock: the new Mondeo looks NOTHING like the Evos. Instead, Ford have produced another boring rep-box with which to clutter the roads. No doubt the motoring press will laud the driving dynamics while largely ignoring the fact that the depreciation wouldn't be much greater if you drove it straight out of the showroom and off Beachy Head.
No private owner will buy it new unless they intend to keep it for 10 years, and the fleet buyers will demand a hefty discount to offset the future value.
It will, however, be comfortable, practical and reasonably well-equipped - but completely lacking desirability.
WoW you guys are great at comments . You can tell all that from a pic of a car covered in black sticky cloth !!
Well I bet its just great when it hits the showrooms .
What EVOS or ha Mondeo......think the journalists are making jokes ine here or they thing the readers are total morons.what on earth or what kind of eye can see evos and this spy shot has equal style or drawing.................the omdeo is still the same and will come out the same.may be on the date 2015 will be a different car but no called evos. And also with that kind of pricing many will buy audi-vw or bmw...ford is flying without wings by cheap materialed cockpits on earth.
BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW every man and his dog is outselling the Mondeo these days.
Bring back the god ole British made RWD Cortina UK No1 forever whilst it was in production, get rid of this boring Belgium made junk no one wants.
The mk1 Mondeo was called so because it was meant to be a world car. Monde being French for world. While the mk1 and round grille facelift was sold in the US and the mk2 in China, I think the latest one is fairly European with some markets like S.America and Australia.
The problem with the Cortina name is that it is associated with RWD saloons. Ford do not sell any saloon in any form in the UK whatsoever. RWD is the preserve of saloons with expensive branding. (not 'exclusive' or 'premium', it's all marketing)
The current Mondeo probably most resembles the mk3 Granada in shape and size, but the Granada name in the UK is associated again with large RWD saloons and in Europe it was called a Scorpio, a name associated with that bug eyed 90s Granada replacement.
Why not bring back the name Taunus?
It ties in with the American Taurus, and as it was the name for the German equivalent of the Cortina, everybody nowadays seems to be unhealthily obsessed with German cars, it will be a huge seller.
Ford Cortina's last few year as it faced the axe sale obversely would drop a bit on the news, but they were still magnificent .

According to SMMT the Mondeo has not made the UK top 10 chart this year, and cars like the RWD low volume quality car produce have been in the UK top 10 every month.
Maybe folk prefer the quality RWD system on the BMW 3 Series,as opposed to the Mondeo. Why has the Ford in this class of car fallen from grace?
Is anyone actually aware of the economics of the country??
Large family cars have been in deline for years and that has been widely publicised in motoring press!
It is not hard to see that mid sized cars like the Focus and Astra are far more popular now!
It is also clear that although not meeting the once huge sales figures of the past, the Mondeo is still one of the top selling cars of this size.
And with the poor weather we experience here in the UK who wants a RWD car!!
I think the return of the Cortina name would be a logical choice. Even more so if the Capri name is to return as rumoured. It doesn't have to be RWD just because it's called a Cortina but all Fords do need to be a bit cheaper, they are far too overpriced now when you take depreciation into account as well. The only name that shouldn't return is the Escort. That really had run it's course and in my eyes the Escort died with the MKIII FWD anyway. In answer to the comment on RWD vs weather. Only inexperienced drivers worry about RWD and bad weather.
Totally useless Mass Produced cheap n' nasty Front-Wheel-Drive Mondeo has not made it into the UK top 10 selling cars in 2011 yet according to SMMT numbers.
seamyB5 better go and tell the Ferrari's, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Aston Martins, Porsche, Jaguars, Rolls Royce and every other quality car maker they are doing it wrong.
Low volume quality producer Rear-Wheel-Drive BMWs 3 Series has not left the UK top ten best selling cars for the whole of 2011.
BMW 3 Series was UK No5 best selling car in last months August most up to date numbers.
Bring back the quality 190,000 UK sales a year RWD Cortina choice of the quality car maker, and put the fun back into motoring again end the worldwide slump, put the RWD fun back into motoring and watch the UK economy boom again.

Come on Ford give us what we want a "FUN" RWD Cortina to blast RWD BMW out of the water again, l will be in a very long queue wanting to buy one.
cant see Ford bringing the name back but they should ... CORTINA is hot, it's sexy, it's cool
In the 60s and 70s the choice was between a Cortina, a Hillman Minx or a Morris Marina. In other words Ford had the market to itself hence the huge sales figures. Today the medium sized family car market is dispersed across a huge range of cars. Compact Execs, SUV's, people carriers. Also Japanese, French and German mainstream brands are now common place. No one car could capture the market the way the Cortina did in todays diverse market.
Finally we will get rid of the last ugly generation Mondeo.
What did they have on their mind when they were designing it?
This is Europe, not USA or S.Asia!
The new model seems much better and I hope it will be that way.
Its time now to also get rid of the ugly last 2 generations of Focus!
