The 2014 Jeep Cherokee has made its official debut at the New York Motor Show.

The Jeep 4x4 has three levels of off-road ability. Buyers can choose from traditional four-wheel drive, an upgraded system with a low-range mode and a top-spec set-up with a rear-locking differential.

A Trailhawk model features the latter as standard, as well
as unique bumpers for better approach and departure angles. It also rides one inch higher. Joining the Trailhawk in the range will be Cherokee Sport, Latitude and Limited models.

The new Cherokee will become the first car on sale with a nine-speed auto box, and is powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine or a 3.2 V6 in the US. Buyers here are likely to be offered a 2.0-litre diesel, too.

It will arrive in the UK in June to take on the Ford Kuga, Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V. The Jeep Cherokee price is expected to start at £24,000.

Whoever nailed down the Pontiac Aztek's coffin didn't do a thorough enough job.. Mind you, this actually does look promising, and whilst the quality might be sketchy, it'll make a good alternative to the Freelander.

Sack the styling department. All of them. That is all.

Don't You know, Azetk is immortal - once you've seen it, you'll never forget how ugly it is! :-)

wow what a beautiful car...

My jaw dropped when I first saw it. All the previous models have always looked good, almost a lil premium, that looks so amateur. Something the Koreans would have brought to a show 10 years ago.

it's growing on me especially the trailhawk version, lets hope jeep don't do what they usually do .... overprice it and make 2wd versions which do 2mpg more that nobody wants!

KevK are you tripping? This is worlds better than any Cherokee has been in a very long time and with Fiat's involvement the quality will be worlds better than what Jeep have been putting out in recent years!! This new car is a cracker in my opinion, very stylish and absolutely nothing like the hideous Aztek as some are saying, I see some slight similarities but overall this is a nice design!

I do like the "weird" design of the car, especially the Trailhawk looks great. I expect that the fit and finish will be way better than previous Jeep cars. This car will be a huge success.

It's a bit of an Izuzu Vehicross! I don't think the design boss was given much of a say

I think this is a great looking vehicle. All the recent Jeep models have been pretty uninspiring and a modern interpretation of the company's styling cues is just what is needed in todays market place.
