Bentley has debuted the Continental GT3 concept ahead of its planned return to motorsport.
The GT3 concept is based on the fastest road-going Bentley to date - the Continental GT Speed, but has been stripped down to save weight. The road car uses a 616bhp 6.0-litre W12, but the brand may be forced to use a race-tuned version of the 4.0-litre V8 if that suits series regulations better.
Whichever engine is used, the standard eight-speed automatic transmission will be traded for a race-ready sequential system, matched to a rear-wheel-drive setup. We expect the dynamic aero package and huge rear wing to remain.
If Bentley’s plans go ahead, we could see the GT3 compete against the likes of the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 and Audi R8 LMS in GT3 endurance events.
