The new Ford Mondeo isn’t due for another year yet, but Ford has given us a taster of what we can expect with these production ready models.

From launch, the car will be available in the UK in hatchback and estate variants, while the saloon bodystyle will go on sale in the US.

The most obvious changes are to the styling, but the biggest difference is under the skin – where the new Mondeo will be offered with Ford’s highly praised three-cylinder 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. This may sound uninspiring, but it effectively replaces the ageing 1.6-litre while boasting improved economy and emissions.

Prices are yet to be announced, but the ramp up in quality and therefore desirability could well see a premium over the outgoing model, which currently starts at around £18,000.

My Mondeo's done 362,000 miles and never been apart. If this is half as good it'll be great, and with those gorgeous looks, I'd have one straight away! Good luck Ford.

2014 ? This is the right car for right now. I hope that the arrival date of 2014 will not mean that the market will have passed it by. It seems that if there are quality issue reasons for the delay then the Americans are satisfied with a lower quality car as they will get theirs much sooner.

Are you sure, looking at the front grill, that it's not a new Mazda 6
