One of Mercedes biggest success stories is back and our spies have captured a disguised version of the stylish saloon winter testing in Scandanavia.
The CLS will be based on the same platform as the new E-Class but will be a much bigger beast to ensure there is no chance of confusing the two.
Underneath its metal overcoat the CLS is expected to have undergone several subtle changes from the model released in 2004 but the distinctive outline will remain.
The new CLS will also include a host of safety features including, Lane Assist and a speed limit assist which can read road signs and adjust your speed accordingly.
The line-up will be four models strong and include a 292bhp 350 CGI which gets a 3.5-litre direct-injection V6, a CLS 550 with a 388bhp 5.5-litre V8, a CLS 350 CDI which uses the 231hp 3.0-litre direct-injection V6 and a flagship CLS 55 AMG which will get a 570hp 5.5-litre twin-turbo direct-injection V8.
Prices are expected to start from around £50,000 and the new Merc is due to make its debut at the Paris Motor show in 2010.
