Bentley CEO Wolfgang Schreiber has confirmed that a four-door coupe, based on the Continental GT, is under consideration. If it makes production, the new model will be an upmarket rival to the Mercedes CLS and BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe.
But don't expect it to arrive before 2016 at the earliest. "It's not any time soon, that's for sure, but maybe in the longer term," Schreiber admitted. "At the moment our focus is very much on an SUV, because we know the market is there."
Schreiber has already spoken openly about his plans to push sales from 8,510 units in 2012 to 15,000 by 2018, and an SUV is crucial to the expansion. However, a four-door coupe, priced at around £130,000, would also help bring new customers to the brand.
The Bentley SUV will reach showrooms by 2015, and 2,000 pre orders have already been taken. Completely redesigned from the EXP 9 F concept show in Geneva last year, and starting from around £120,000, the SUV could be built alongside the Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7 at a VW Group factory in Bratislava, rather than Crewe.
